Carr I am really sorry if that offended you its a old saying here when someone gets upset about something.  I have really put my self back a ways  recently . I think its all this with Zeb then Vivian returning and also the DOM over on Maganak who want help getting his 17 year old little girl over here. Then posting her photo in a very short mini skirt at the same time telling us what a good little girl she is.  Guess I blew a fuse with all this crap. I think its best I don't post for a while. Hum,

...don't forget to say, "I shall return!" Just joking! Life would be boring without you. ;o)) I have been feeling a little down lately myself. Watching programs on the Philippines and seeing the kids living in the streets, under bridges and on the Smoky Mountain Dump. Remembering the children with no shoes and the sick begging. Reading and seeing first hand, Americans taking advantage of poor Filipinas. Reading about Filipinas taking advantage of Americans. Either way, it is wrong! Seeing an intelligent, beautiful, happy people, turn on one another in jealousy. Sometimes I feel that I love the people of the Philippines more than they love themselves. Having Filipinos tell me  "All things American are best." "White skin is more beautiful." Someone once told me I couldn't save the world. A friend recently told me that I couldn't save the Philippines. Maybe not, but I hope that it always moves me to shed a tear and help when I can. Jose Rizal truly loved the Philippines and can teach us all a lesson:

"Farewell, adored Fatherland; our Eden lost, farewell;
Farewell, O Sun's loved region, pearl of the eastern sea;
Gladly I die for thy dear sake; yea, thou knowest well
Were my sad life more radiant far than mortal tongue could tell, Yet would I give it gladly, joyously for thee.
On blood-stained fields of battle, fast locked in maddening strife, Thy sons have dying blest thee, untouched by doubt or fear. No matter wreaths of laurel; no matter where our life ebbs out On scaffold or in combat, or under torturer's knife, We welcome death, if for our hearths, or for our country dear. Pray for those who died alone, betrayed, in wretchedness; For those who suffered for thy sake torments and misery; For broken hearts of mothers who weep in bitterness; For widows, tortured captives, orphans in deep distress; And pray for thy dear self, that thou may'st finally be free. Farewell, adored country; I leave my all with thee, Beloved Philippines, whose soil my feet have trod, I leave with thee my life's love deep; I go where all are free; I go where are no torturers, where the oppressor's power shall be Destroyed, where faith kills not, where he who reigns is God. Farewell, my parents, brothers, friends of my childhood days, Dear fragments of my heart, once to my bosom pressed Round our lost hearth. Give thanks to God in glad tranquillity, That after day's long weary hours, I sleep eternally. Farewell, beloved friends and stranger sweet; to die is but to rest."              Jose Rizal

In Manila, two months ago, my fiance recited those words while walking in his footsteps. She told me his story as we walked from his last prison cell and out the main gate. That was the day we had her interview and approval. In two days we will be married. Your post reminded me of some special times and feelings. Thanks FL

My fiance's dream was to visit the shrine from the time she was very young(from Cebu). We were also there on Election day and the shrine was closed, the fort completely empty other then us, very haunting experience......

FL,

I just checked with the wife and actually we were there at the end of April.  On election day we were at Tia's Cottages in Camiguin; it was empty except for a 12 man squad of AFP armed with an M-60 gun, two M-79 grenade launchers, and M-14s and 16s.  We felt very safe.

Congratulations on your imminent wedding!

Hi Jimbo,

That M-60 is a nice gun. They are almost as big as the average Filipino and weigh 23 pounds, plus those heavy ammo belts. Did they have it mounted on a tripod? With all of those weapons, I would have been real nice!

"This is my rifle, this is my gun. This is for fighting, this is for fun!"

Hi Dave,

They had a duece-and-a-half with ammo crates and the tripod stored there too.  Every morning they would head out in the truck and set up a couple of road blocks on the highway.  At night they would come back to Tia's and relieve me from  my Abu Sayyaf watch.

They stayed for over a week; I thought it was because they seemed to enjoy watching my wife go swimming.  Maybe that's why they would always smile when we came through the roadblocks on our Yamaha 125 Shocked)

Election day, Manila, riding in a taxi, asked the driver if he had voted...He said "Yes, I voted the filipino way" as he held up his hand in the shape of a gun. BTW, day after elections, read the elections were peaceful compared to other years..only 50 some canidates were assasinated, not counting a dozen or so botched attempts.....
