... in response to misunderstandings, posted by chevy on Apr 5, 2002You're asking a question which can't be answered except by those offering anecdotal evidence. Each man can really only comment with authority on his own wife, and even then only if he's been with her a long long time through many ups and downs.
Some guys could relay the story of others, usually "internet aquaintances" who they know nothing about except what they're told through their e-mails. Some guys know several other guys personally, but unless the couples have been together a long time and suffered through tough times, once again, you're not going to get the information you want.
I've been married close to 5 years now. During tough times my wife has shown more resolve to keep the marriage together than I have. I've seen two marriages between Latin woman and gringo husbands fail. In both cases, I think the men wanted the divorce as much, if not more, than the women. I know of one other marriage that frankly sucks, but both of them seem to be commited to making it work in some fashion. Does that mean that YOUR Latin wife would be as commited to marriage as mine, or these others? No, each woman is unique.
If you want statistics, go to the main Planet-Love.com page and click on the FAQ page from there (not the one on the side of the message board). You'll find data on divorce rates by country and age group, with comparisons to the US divorce rate. You may not like what you find, particularly in regard to marriage to YOUNG Latin women.
By the way, the two marriages I personally saw fail were to women in their early to mid twenties. Anecdotal evidence I know, but that's all I can offer. Marrying a woman in this age bracket seems to be the big draw for many of the men, but IMHO, these are the marriages at greatest risk. I don't buy the old "They mature faster in Latin America" line.
