Interesting poll on Colombian sexual practices published in todays 12/8/01 edition of El Tiempo, www.eltiempo.com. It confirms what I've always beleived after talking to various sources there. Despite appearences the costenos are more conservative despite being more infiel, than calenos.  Turns out calenas really are "faster" than barranquilleras. Check it out.

Vet, as I mentioned before, many of those ladies in Barranquilla are a little too picky for me. I'm feelin' Cali now more than ever. When I return there, I will try to stay there for three weeks or maybe a month. Later.

Yes those costenas are difficult.

Hey Keith what's this horror story about being interrogated by US Customs in Miami? Did you sass them or was it some kind of profiling thing? Our mutual friend Ronnie W. has complained about that too. My self I never sass them even though their questioning sometimes pisses me off. I've always got a connecting flight to catch and they can inconvenience me big time very easily. And it's not getting any easier. With stamps from Panama and the Dominican Republic and LOTS from Colombia they're none to happy so even though I'm tired and cranky from the crack of dawn Cali departure I stay on my best behavior. I've got to addmit the return through customs is something I've come to dread lately.

Hey Vet. What happened is this: last year, I was being questioned by a Customs Inspector at MIA. Even though I answered his questions truthfully, he was sarcastic, arrogant, rude, and disrespectful. When I returned home, I contacted U.S. Customs (via the 'net) and filed a complaint against this joker. I gave them his badge number, his physical description, and his first name. I was contacted by a Customs Supervisor by phone. He informed me that some action would be action against the inspector and that I would receive a notice in the mail. A week later, I did receive a letter from Customs. In February, I received a second letter from Customs apologizing for the incident from Dec. 2000. Anyway, upon my return to the States this past August 25, I was detained in Miami for an hour because of Customs (I missed my connecting flight to New York). I didn;t see that inspector who gave me static in Dec. 2000. However, I did see his former partner. She seen me and said, "I remember you." I replied, "I remember you, too. How are you?" With sarcasam, she replied, "Uh-HUH." Vet, I pulled her card. There was a good possiblity that nut was re-assigned. When I returned last Saturday, I didn't see that joker again. Personally, I strongly believe that he put the word out on me that I got him into trouble. Therefore, his co-workers have it in for me too. I don't think that I paranoid, but these are some vindictive people we are dealing with. After all, my bags were searched and NO evidence of contraband OR narcotics were found. Afterwards, they interrogated me in a small room (with no windows, a desk, and a wooden bench with a set of handcuffs attached to each side). They keep me for a hour and fifteen minutes. Vet, it's all about VENDETTA!!! Later.

When I returned after my second trip. The customs guys went through my stuff & asked why would I go Colombia for a lady. I asked them about their relationships w/AW & showed them photos of me & Stivalis. NO MORE QUESTIONS...LOL!! I told the guy, that I would be going back & forth until me & Stivalis got married. He may of been BS'ing me, but he smiled & said, that he would make a notation on my file. I haven't had any problems since.

Keith, I can see your point where you feel, you're being targeted. They (the INS & DEA) do keep tabs, on who goes where & returns. I don't think it would be unreasonable, for you to expect some additional attention, everytime you come back from a trip. Whenever you come back, just stay frosty bro. Memorize names & badge numbers if you feel the need to report people...

Thanks Hoda. But as I mentioned, we are dealing with some vindictive people here. Before I went to Cali, my parents told me that they were worried. Not because of me traveling to Colombia. But the fact that those jokers in Miami may attempt to do something VERY SHADY to me (get the picture?) when I returned to the States. Personally, I wouldn't put it past them to do such a thing. Once again, it's not paranoia. Later.

short story. i remember in the summer of 1999 i had gone on a tour to latin connection in cali with about 9 or 10 other guys. one afternoon we were all sitting around the pool goofing off. one of the vets at that tme told another guy there that he bet he'd get stopped by the folks in miami.

they went back and forth about this subject for awhile the one guy betting he'd get pulled over ,the other guy saying no way.

i asked him why he thought that. his reply was that he fit the profile, half beard ,ear ring, attitude, etc.

about a week later we all land in miami, as im coming off the plane i see him being led off to the room with a stunned look on his face. what can i say?

i would think that its even worse now since sept. 11th.

I regularly cross highway inspection points in Southern California and have never been pulled over for secondary inspection.  A friend of mine, of the same ethnicity, is regularly pulled over at the same check points.  The only time I have been pulled over is when I am with him.  I strongly feel that this is a variable they check for.  We are both of Northern Euro extraction.

Pack are you suggesting that wearing a beard, a turban and  shorts is what got him in to trouble?

Thanks for the update Keith. That sounds like a real bummer. I guess all you can do next time is try to look over the agents from a distance before picking the line to go through.

Thanks Vet. But remember, I cleared Immigration BEFORE I went to Customs. Normally, it's the reverse. Later.

Keith, No entiendo, were you flagged when you got your passport stamped upstairs or downstairs where you have to turn in your "anything to declare" card as you pass by the agent with your bags? (I know the layout has changed recently). Any how that's where I get hasseled. Though sometimes they interview you just as you walk off the plane.
