Posting a Personal Abroad?: Does it Work?

Has anyone ever posted a personal, not in a news paper, but in a publication like intlady.com?  The promise you exposure abroad.  How valid are these types of services?  Has anyone tried this?  The cost is $39.00.

I had ads placed in three Mexican city newspapers around 7 years ago and at the peak was receiving 20-30 letters per day (The ad appeared in Monterrey, Chihuahua, and Mexicali).  I was around 34-35 at the time and the ad said (incorrectly) that I had blond hair and blue eyes.  I don't know what the response rate for a man with brown hair and hazel eyes (correct) would have been.  I also don't know what the response rate today would be like versus seven years ago, but I do think that personal ads for individuals work much better in Mexico than agency ads do.

You might try The Loot, a classified ad paper in New York.

I posted a ad with them via the internation personal service that they offer. It cost about $125 and my personal ad was then published in 137 countries. Wow! the response was overwhelming! I reveived about 400 letters in a couple months time. So - check it out as this seems to be a good value to me.

You can also advertise in a much smaller area in order to target your responses.

I posted a personal ad/profile with South of the Border in late 1999. I had excellent results, I received replies from approx. 50 different ladies from the countries of Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, and Venezuela. Most ladies were attractive at least, many were VERY attractive, well educated and some spoke English. Some used email and some wrote by hand. NONE came across as golddiggers or scammers.
 
  I requested responses from ladies ranging in age from 25-40 as I was around 40 at that time.

  It takes awhile [4-6 weeks] to start receiving responses, so be patient if you go this route. Once they started coming however, it seemed that a new one or two would arrive daily. More than I could easily keep track of.
