I've noticed on other sites, mainly Asian ones, that caucasians are rejected in pretty much all Asian [Filipino,Chinese,Korean, etc.] communities in the USA.It seems that the only way to co-exist in a interracial marriage is to move her away from these influences. So it seems that if they become Americanized[a total oxymoron in itself],they now become hostile and rejective to an "outsider".I have little to no experience in dealing w/ cross-cultural dealings,so my observations may be jaded. What have you experienced?

P.S.-note that I am mainly refering to when a relationship is involved since people can fein civility in social settings.......

I'm very accepted and known in the Orange County (Southern California) Japanese community. Of course, I speak Japanese now fairly well, love eating Japanese food, and in general know and respect the cultural quirks. I go to (and host) many parties where I'm the only round-eye. It didn't take long. I'd also like to strongly caution you against moving your wife completely away from her country's community. She needs to be connected with people from her culture, gossip in her native language, have book & video swapping friends, and in general feel like she's around other people in her same situation. You shouldn't let it become a crutch, though, to the exclusion of knowing other Americans, but I believe it's important and healthy. Imagine you being in a foreign country where no-one speaks your language. While it's fun for a while, you yearn to speak English full speed again, watch a football game, and read something!

I have been to many asian sites on the internet(alot of discussion boards. Also all my girlfriends are filipina's. I can say it took me a while to get "IN" with them. I don't think they trusted my friendship. But after I proved myself to them, they are like my sisters.

... in response to can you elaborate?, posted by mkelly121 on Jan 11, 2002

Well, I work with these girls. For over a year I was an outsider. I guess you might have to be a minority to understand it. They stick together in their little group, and for a long time it was filipina's against the white girls...as far as doing the worst jobs at work. Alot of the white girls would complain about the filipinas. They would say how they got the best sections, the be scheduals etc...etc...
But the closer you looked, the reasons they got all this was simply because they were the best workers, and they earned it. If I had been predudiced like the others, I would have missed out on some very good relationships. Now they trust me, I am one of them, so to speak, understand??
The only problem I have now, is that when one of the pinays are having trouble they come to me, and ask me to go to management. The last time this happened, I went to management, and they had my work file out, and basically threatened my job. They said I was working up the filipina's, and causing trouble. WHO ME?? It is not that, it is because they have found someone outside their race, there that they trust. But anyway, I had to tell them if they had a problem from now on, they would have to go themselves. I think we need a union. Why do we stay at this job??? $$$$$ From what I have seen, if a lot of pinays work at a certain place, you can be sure there is money to be made. They are pretty smart women:)
