Thank you to everyone (especially Ray) who took the time to help me with some earlier questions. After my second visit to Surigao things are going very well. My fiancee and I were able to receive our approval of the affidavit for legal capacity to marry in the Consulate in Cebu (it has a new location) and we will be married in San Nicolas in Surigao Aug 15.
As for a honeymoon location I was advised to consider staying in and a round the Cebu area and to avoid resort spots such as Boracay. I would appreciate any recommendations as far as the Cebu area---perhaps the Bluewater??? Thank you, Wolverine

we went there in April and stayed at Sta. Fe Beach Club. Nice little place, friendly people and white sand beach. Three hours bus ride from Cebu and another 1 hour ferry ride to the island. It's quite an experience and we love it.

There's Malapascua Island and there's  Bantayan ISland both of which you can find online.
I've never been there but have read about it. It looks beautiful, secluded, not as developed as the other islands and close to Cebu.

How did it go at the Cebu consulate? Did John Domingo interview you and your fiancee? How long were you there for the affidavit? Is their new office in the Waterfront Hotel like Peter reported earlier?

I was curious about your experience with the marriage license. Did you apply at the Surigao City Municipal Office? How many days did you have to wait? Did you attend a marriage seminar and family planning class?

Yes, it would probably be a good idea to stay away from the big “target” resorts like Boracay for a little while until the Abu Sayef are all dead and stinking (hopefully soon). Some of the Cebu resorts are VERY expensive, especially on Mactan. If you are looking for a quiet beach resort that doesn’t cost a lot, there are lots of choices. Camiguin Island is good also and there are some great beaches on Siargao Island a few hours boat ride from Surigao City. I wouldn’t make hard plans and book one resort for any length of time because you might not like it when you get there. What we did was pack one small bag each and jump on a bus in Surigao headed for Butuan and just played it by ear from day to day. We would stay a day or two in one place then jump on a bus and see what happened at the end of the ride. We had a blast and you can get some of the best hotel rates by walking in off of the street. You probably don’t want to go any farther South than Cagayan. How about Baguio? It’s cool there.

Where is the Wedding reception going to be held? Gateway? Are you going to be in Surigao for the fiesta (Sept 10 I think)?

Have a great wedding and honeymoon!

Hi Ray, it went well at the Consulate in Cebu. I was surprised how well things went. We arrived at the Consulate (now in the Waterfront Hotel) at about 8:30 and were the third "customer" for the day once doors opened at 9:00. We submitted our papers at about 9:30 and at about 11:30 we had our meeting with John Domingo (I believe). The interview consisted of the Consular asking each of us if we wished to marry the other and I had to swear that the information I submitted was true...then we received our approval! We were at the Consulate from about 8:30 to about 12:00 noon in total.

As for the marriage license, we are fortunate that my future wife has worked in the Surigao city offices for about 8 years so there were no problems there! I was there with her and there was a lot of Surigaon being spoken and a lot of smiles---I was assured that it was all good thoughts though---:) We were told it would take about 12 days to get the approval on the marriage license...so it should be approved soon.

Yes, you are right, the reception will be at the Gateway. It seems like a nice place. As of right now one brother, one sister, both parents will be attending--hopefully things will remain quiet until after the wedding.

I am fired up about the wedding location---San Nicolas de Torrentino (not sure if I got that right)..its very nice!!!

Oh yeah, I was scheduled for pre-cana classes while I was there but when I showed up the lady in charge postponed it until two days before the wedding--that should be interesting.

Glad to hear everything went O.K.

The name of the church is San Nicolas de Tolentino Cathedral (you were close). That's the same church where Surigao Ken and I were married. I also had my reception at the Gateway. They really do nice wedding receptions and the food and service were great.

That sounds like about the same routine we went through at the Cebu consulate 3 years ago. I wouldn’t mind having Domingo’s job. Come in to work around 11 a.m., sign a few papers, and out of there by early afternoon (LOL).

Hope you have a great wedding. Don’t forget to smile for the video, even though you are hot as hell and can’t wait to get out of there. At least the Gateway was nice and cool inside, not like the church. And be careful over there. The Muslims are running amok again.

Try the Coral Cay Resort on Siquijor it's only an hr away from Cebu on the fast boat.
