Author Topic: What is it with Tacloban and money?  (Read 5458 times)

In preparation to my trip to the Phils I have been chatting with women from the Phils.  It seems like almost every filipina from Tacloban has asked for money in her first e-mail or chat.
There are at least a dozen different excuses, and I always tell them that I never give money to strangers.
Also, who are these idiots that are sending money to women that they have never met before?  Don't they understand that the Filipinas just spread the word that foreigners are good for easy money, and it encourages other filipinas to ask?

I know I have brought this up before, but recently I have been inundated with requests for money, and I just do not understand why others give it.

Don,

Tacloban is a large city on Leyte.  From what I have seen, Tacloban is not nearly as thriving as Cebu and Davao.  It's a large populated city, but, from my expirience, is much poorer than other large cities in that area of the Philippines.  At least that's certainly the impression I got.

You know what opinions are like Tongue

Keep the Faith

ok, if you don't mind satisfying my curiosity.
Why do you send money to girls that you have never met before?
Even Esiang, a Filipina, is calling them gold-diggers.

Thanks,

Don

A long time ago I actually made it to the Phils.  I went to visit a gal that I wrote for about 8 months.  During the course of getting to know each other, I found that her cell phone number stopped working.  She was not using e-mail and wrote to let me know that her phone had been stolen and that I should call her neighbor's number and they would get her.  Every time I called, the voice on the other side claimed I had the wrong number.  I figure that's the story I was given since she might not have been around or they did not want to bother to get her.  Anyway, I ponied up for a new phone- she did not ask.  It ended up being a bit more expensive than I thought, since she had to get the model she had before as she knew how to use it.  It ended up being on sale (?) and she bought a dress with the extra money to attend a college sports function.  She later on she called crying that her youngest daughter was in the hospital and she did not know how to pay for it.  The distress seemed very, very genuine.

I don't have a lot of friends, but the people who know me well would fault me as being too nice a person.

Jon, an idiot, and slightly sensitive.

Hi Jon,
Thanks for the reply, and the interesting story.
So, what happened between you two?
What happened after you met her?

Thanks,

Don

It was weird.  I wrote to her for 8 months and she begged me to visit her. She was in college and did not care to wait till she had a break.  It was very hard to get time off from work at that time and I planned a 5 day (!) trip.  Once I got there she complained that I should have come at a different time.  She spent a lot of time texting with the cell phone and she actually stayed with me at the hotel in the spare bed.  The cell would ring in the middle of the night, she passed it off as friends.  I had been sick before leaving on the trip, and was probably a bit sluggish, but tried to smile, and take interest.  She was in school most of the time and I sat at the hotel because I did not want to come to a bad end on my own. Two nites before leaving, we went dancing with a friend and after being there a short while, she had been very quiet, she wanted to leave, her friend was puzzled.  She slept most of the next day away.  Then that next nite was a huge fire in the area she lived and she nearly lost her small apt. Dark nite, flames licking at the sky, pinoys running through the streets with their possessions .  The next day she went to the airport with me (a surprise at that point) and she rambled on about a bunch of stuff that did not make much sense.  I did not hear from her after I returned, but finally she replied with, "what's the point, you don't like me".  Time to move on.

So I don't send letters anymore, I posted profiles and let the gals show interest first, not much of an improvement.

I think we can't be sure that those are ladies your chatting or corresponding on email, or maybe theyre not really all from Tacloban.

       Enjoy on your oncoming trip.....

I just had one from thier Don. She was crying and just so sad coz she said she lost her cell phone her brother bought her for her birthday, now she said she will have no way to contact me when I arive in PI.  WINK WINK

The week before that she told me her brother can't get married now coz he won't have a crop since his buffalo died and that is was only 12000p to buy a younger bull:-)))))

As soon as they ask me for money or hint, to the bottom of the list the go.

Don limit yourself to women from Cebu that way it is easier to travel to see them and cheaper to. My 2 cents
