Thanks Steve

Now i see the lucky sea rounds at 2 minutes I will try them and the other one i posted which gets 95 mins but rounds at 3 minutes

Sigh, i guess there are no one minute rounding companies with decent rates per minute

Stop complaining! (LOL)

About 30 or so years ago, when AT&T was the only game in town, it cost $9.00 for the first 3 minutes and $3.00 per minute after that. So a 10-second call would cost you 9 bucks and the one-minute rounding could still cost you $3. That was lot of money back then! I was lucky if I could afford to call my wife once a month and talk for 15-20 minutes. There were no cell phones back then and you had to go to the one telephone call center in town and wait in line for hours sometimes just to "try" to get through.

So, we really don’t have it so bad now, do we? :-)

... in response to $3.00/min USA/PI, posted by Ray on Nov 13, 2002

Ray,
I remember reading the Philippines Airline magazine on the plane during my 1st trip.   In the back it stated something to the effect that you had to call confirm your seat on all International flights within a day or two of your travel day.   Well, after staying a few days in such a remote area of Mindanao, I could see that calling wasn't going to be an easy thing to do!

We had to get a tricycle ride into town, jeepny to Marbel, then a bus to General Santos to the phone center.   The line to get to a phone booth was terrible.  A couple of hours wait in a scalding hot room - up a flight of stairs into an even hotter second floor room.  I had to go to a window, fill out a form with the number I wished to call and then wait again for a lonnnngggg time to actually have them make the call.  When I got through to Phil Air, the connection was poor and they acted as if there was no use in calling in the first place since I already had tickets.   haha   Oh well, at least I knew I had confirmed seats.

Anyway, it took about 8 hrs total from the time we left Melly's house until we got back - all just to make a phone call.   The widespread use of cell phones in the Philippines is a great improvement over those days not very long ago!   Now we can call Melly's brother or sister so easily and they can reach us if they need to without such inconvenience.

Hey Ray,

My wife's family had a land line telephone in their home. Talk about convenient! The only thing I had to worry about was busy international circuits.

I used to pay about 70 or 90 with my crappy old long distance company, then i switched to one with 25 per minute
but then i got spoiled with a 13 or 14c per minute phone card but im always looking for 10 per minute one minute rounding now to a cell, with no connection fee.

Ya we are spoiled but i find Ray, that when i get the real cheap rates i blab 10 times as long and my bill does not seem to go down, hehe
