In addtion to gardening:

Your wife might be an animal lover. Get a pet and/or visit a zoo.

Shows like circus and skate-show may give her a great release of stress.

How about sports?

How about outdoor activity like hiking or fishing?

When she gets really bored, nothing may work better than SEX!!!!!

I'm sure it wil be different for each one Frank, but the best way to help is have a calling card ready and let her use it anytime she has the urge.

I agree.  Allowing her to call home frequently will be a great help in minimizing home sickness.  Television in her native language will be a blessing for her too.  When my fiancee and her son came over, I had already purchased a worldwide VCR and DVD player.  Right away they could watch their favorite Russian movies and cartoons.  If your fiancee is Russian, there are Russian cable TV stations available too.  Good luck and best wishes!
