Ectaco ER586HT adapter

My wife has had this electronic translator for 5 years.   Early on she bought an AC-DC adapter in Russia.  It was recommended by Ectaco to buy the adapter from a local Russian store versus trying to ship one  from the Ectaco distributor in Russia.  This adapter worked fine for about 4 years but seems to be have given up the ghost.

My question is whether anyone has the official Ectaco adapter for this translator.   What I am trying to find out is the correct  OUTPUT DC voltage (3 v, 6 v, etc) and the correct  OUTPUT DC ampage.  This info should be on the adapter.  I cannot find any mention of it on the Ectaco web page or on any of the distributors web pages.

Thanks to everyone who has responded.

RickM - I find out now that my wife's adapter came with the translator from Ectaco.  And it has the same information as the info you listed.    Rags posted a logical explanation of the summation of battery voltage as the adapter output voltage.  Unfortunately the 586 has 2 - 1.5 v batteries thus equalling 3 volts for an adapter.  And Ectaco is furnishing adapter rated at 6 v DC output.  Strange.  I have also emailed Ectaco to see what they have to say.  I can buy an adapter from Ectaco but it would be just easier to purchase it locally.

How many batteries does it run on? Multiply the number of batteries (except square 9V) by 1.5 to find the operating voltage. If you are using a universal adapter be sure to check the polarity of the plug using an ohm meter (usually it's negative on the outside but not always). Reverse the polarity and you have an instant meltdown.

We mostly shop at "Good Neighbor" and "Kyiv" stores on College Oaks (near Madison) but we have checked out a couple in N.Highlands and Citrus Heights. We have never been to any stores in West Sac that I remember but we have gone to the Orthodox Church there.

There must be 15-20 "Russian" or "Eastern European" stores in the greater Sacramento area. I feel bad for those guys that drive for hours and hours to shop at one. Sac probably has the highest per capita Ukrainian/Russian population outside of Brighton Beach. It has definitely made our lives easier in many ways. When Dasha brings home anouncements from school they are written in English on one side and Russian on the other. In our area you are more much likely to hear Russian spoken that Spanish.

I don't know what's up with DE and Tootsie. I know that they got married shortly after we did but we didn't keep in touch. I think that Tootsie being a Moscow Girl and V being from Kyiv caused some friction between them.

I searched the internet for Ruusian stores in Sac, the west Sac one was the only one listed. Do you have an address for the good neighbor store? I think my wife has already been to the Kyiv, but she does not remeber the name beacause she was with another woman who drove up...and yes it will take us 1.5 hours to get there.
 My wife (also a Moscovite) is mostly looking for dried fish, maybe some herbs and wild mushrooms...she can not find them here.

 Too bad about Tootsie.

Good Neighbor is across the street from Kyiv on College Oaks. It is the larger store with a bakery and lots of different types of fish but there are somethings that are better to but at the Kyiv store like salo (yuck). G N also has good produce.

Take I-5 to I-80 East, go to Madison exit and take a right, the second stop light (right) is College Oaks. The Kyiv store is on the left tucked in behind a shop the fronts Madison Ave and Good Neighbor is in the strip mall on the right down about a half block.

Give us a shout if you come to town and maybe we could hook up.

I found the address to Good Neighbor last night on the internet, I already had another address for Europa Foods.
 We checked out both today (Monday) and easily found them.
It was interesting that there was a bakery and book store next to to Good Neighbor...so it took a bit longer there.

Europa is bigger than the others, much more produce than Good Neighbor and the meats/cheese selection is more also.
Although I am not a big fan of dried fish and pickled herring, I do enjoy the marinated olives and mushroom selections. My wife found a type of white mushroom that was picked not far from Moscow...small world
The fresh dark bread we found at Good Neighbor was my wife's favorite...I probably will not get to try it (smile).

We plan to go back up to the big city in a few months, it would be good to get a chance to get together.

I assume your wife has her 10 year green card by now, my wife received hers a few weeks ago....but my step son's has not arrived yet although we did received the NOA that it is to arrive soon.

Did you check the dictionary itself (usually on the back) for its voltage requirements, and/or the user manual?

According to the manual, you can call 1-800-710-7920 for info on the adapter (presuming the number is still valid).
