bill,
if you run cmd.exe and then in msdos type ping www.whatever.com (the name of the site you are trying to reach) you can get the websites IP number. it'll look something like 165.123.0.9er or something. then just type that number in the address bar. Its the way to get around some web blocking software. Smiley

There is a free on-line translation service. My fiancés as well as a friend of mine’s Russian wife say that the quality of the translation is very good.

http://www.translate.ru/text.asp?lang=en

You can download software for translation fro this site but it simply connects your writing to their site, i.e., it is not a stand-alone software program. The translation is both ways, i.e., English to Russian and Russian to English.

Use this link to go to the 'Promt' website, use the online translation program and if it meets your needs, consider buying the program. I have an older version (3yrs old), and paid $400 for it, and it was worth it's weight in gold. Highly recommended. http://www.translate.ru/text.asp?lang=en

Block out alot of website.  Foreign, love, MOB sites, porn, etc. (all the good stuff is out of reach).

Also, they like any company in America tracks your every move and e-mail sent.  If your on a aircraft carrier - good luck, as well.  I tried to send out a simple e-mail and I kept getting kicked off.

I know with the new Navy NMCI network, talk about royal pain in the rear, 3/4 of the time the system/internet is down.  I don't even use...  I guess they wanted a secure setup...they got one.

As wsbill is doing me a favor I consider this my thread.  Stay out of it if you have nothing to contribute, I'm on a timeline and you're an annoyance.

To those that have contributed, thanks.  I decided not to go with Promt as it comes out of St Pete. Russia and the freight is unreasonable.  Still searching.

As for wsbill, he's done me more favors than I can count and I've never even met the guy.  Some day he will have a Ukrainian wife, just not right now, so he has more of a right to be here than most of you yahoos.  Since he doesn't have a wife he has too much time on his hands, therefore posts' too much.  I don't read all his emails, why do you bother to.

As wsbill says, I'm being mobilized for the sandbox.  Just wanted to publicly say thanks to Bill while I have the time.  I really do need a translation program so if there are any lurkers out there who are holding out I'd appreciate your input.

How are you posting is you aren't "mobilized for the sandbox?"

A quick check through the Archives shows this account having posted 19 times in the past year...

Who are you, Marty?

running a search for "eletronic handheld language translators" and check out the several companies' inventorys to see what is available. You should get companys like Ectaco and some others that are warehouse distributors right here in USA of exactly what you're looking for.
***Just so you know...They're all negotiable on their prices...I've called quoting prices on things of the sought before only to have them call me back a few days or a week later and make me offers cheaper than they origionally quoted me...FWIW....Best of luck...

I also got that program a couple years ago and it was NG, despite Language Forces PR.  I kept researching and Prompts was the best...but it too had problems.  Like a sentence can become gibberish.  But it was the best. Good luck.
