Jack, you'll know this best.  After I file my I129F and a check, with my divorce decree, hers/w certified English translation, photos, proof of meeting, and a G325A for me and her, and file this at Nebraska Center, what happens next?  I would think they come back to me with a note they rcvd it, give me a file/case#, then what?...besides wait?

I assume that 5 months later you hear from them, asking for what?

Thanks.

Globe, LP is pretty much on target.

Hopefully you did send your petition registered. Usually in about 8 to 12 days after sending in your petition you will get a notice (and case number) that they have received your packet and are reviewing it. If there is any problem with your petition it will be sent back to you with-in about 30 days of them receiving it. If you do not get your packet returned in the first 30 days it usually means the petition made it past the first quick glance inspection.

Somewhere between 90-120 days your packet should be approved and forwarded to the respective embassy.

Once it get's to the embassy usually within that first week packet 3 will be sent to your lady.  After she receives it (usually 5 to 8 days later, unless going to the Crimea in which you would need to add an extra 3 or 4 days), fills it out, sends it back, and once the embassy personal receive the completed pack 3, her interview date will be set, usually in about three weeks. I see times today running from about 5 months three weeks to 7 months one week on average.

....I thought the notice of receipt and petition approval notice had different numbers and the case number was the latter. It's been awhile but I know things haven't changed much as far as the general process goes. It's the number thats important, it'll be how the system IDs him.

Globe, it's just a matter of pushing paper so be sure to have all your ducks lined up. The only deal killers would be a serious health or criminal problem on her part. I'm assuming she doesn't have HIV, TB, or any of the other biggies and hasn't killed anyone lately.

You'll be OK. I heard you once shot a man in Reno just to watch him die...but they won't hold that against you. Wink

LP, I think you meant Vegas where the guy died.  Also, didn't have a gun...didn't need one either, but he died just the same.

Thanks for the help.

...don't make me come over there. I'd have thought a guy like you would have long ago researched the process. You're gonna do a K1 right?

You'll get a notice in a few weeks that they've received your docs. (You did send them registered mail right?) Nebraska will then send your docs to the National Visa Center in NH.

In about 90 days (if yer lucky) you'll get a petition approval notice assigning you a case number. The National Visa Center will then send your package on to the embassy, after that its in State's hands.

The embassy will contact your sqeeze with instructions and send her more docs. She'll send them back and then get an interview date. This will all take anywhere from 5 to 8 months total. Used to be you could open a provisional file but I hear they don't do that anymore. And typically Russia is more of a hassle to deal with than Ukraine.

That in a nutshell is whats gonna happen. I might be able help you out on the BCIS part. Email me if you're interested.

I've downloaded the forms and know how to start.  I'll see her soon and collect what I need from her, and file when I get back.  I know they send her a packet, police cert and med exam needed, but don't know when or in what order.  And,
what I'll have is 2 girls wanting to know what's taking so long, so I'm looking for information/ammunition to tell them I'm doing all I can and now it's time to hurry up and wait.  I've already told her to expect 9-12 months.

The site with the order of things which I'd bookmarked...
just in case I needed to know, doesn't come up anymore.  So I wanted to know if anybody had a site I could go to to "read all about it."

Sure, I'd like "help" with the BCIS part.  What do I need to know there?

And Thanks.

1) acknowlegment they received your forms: 1-3 weeks (this letter will also contain your case number--save it, you'll need it)
2) processing the forms: don't know about Nebraska, Texas took 182 days to do mine, I hear they're just as bad
3) after Nebraska finishes, they will send it to National Visa Center, who will sit on it how long? Don't know, they only had mine 4 days (but that was for a Colombian with an uncommon name, I hear that Russians and common names seem to take much longer, Russians because the US computer systems can't process Cyrilic(sp?) alphabet, common names because they have to manualy research each 'hit'.
4) she gets 'the package' about a week after #3 clears
5) embassy (or counsolate) appointment---no idea, in Colombia they say "just drop in anytime at least two weeks after this notice, stand in line, no appointment needed"

The best source of information is just that: The BCIS Service Center's website for Nebraska. Look here:

http://uscis.gov/graphics/fieldoffices/nebraska/aboutus.htm

There are reams of info on the process, both here and online. Search on "K1" or Fiance Visa". Remember, the Internet is so much more than a global pornoghraphy network. Btw, for once I agree with my pal in TX: Send only what they ask for and assemble the package as they specify. Nothing makes 'em as happy as when you follow instructions and it gives you weight if there is a later problem. But be sure you give them what they want, do it carefully and make sure it's all legible. After all, you're dealing with paper pushers.

9 to 12 months is more than enough, it shouldn't take anywhere near that. If there are kids involved make sure you undertsand you'll also be filing for a K2 and will need some docs for the kid. Is the child in her mother's passport? Does your squeeze have an international passport? If not, get her going on it. (No wait...she must have one if she's going to Cyprus.)

If your future wife is Russian get her started on the police cert now, obtaning it can be a hassle depending on where she now lives and where she has lived since she was 16. (I assume she's older than 16, if not we need to talk. Wink

For help it's not what you need to know, it's what I need to know. And I can't promise anything, such requests have historically been turned downed when made for others. I'd hate to use one up as I must always pay it back and I'm deeply in debt as it is. But I can try, the worst that can happen is I'll get a no.

Thanks everybody.  All I needed to know, and will research the rest as you suggest.  LP, thanks for the offer.  Keep the favor for something more important than me.  It'll just be a December wedding around the Xmas tree, which will work fine.  Plus, I still need to finish the pool hall!

Cheers.

....the offer stands. I hope you realize I don't make it to many, I've only used it a few times and one was to screw with someone who deserved it. The others were for good reason and if anyone has waited long enough and deserves a break it's you. Remember, I just had two young R/W visit me so anything is possible. Difficult, but possible.

Anyway, email me if you require assitance.
