CNN ran a 'Destinations' piece on Yalta today. Here is the link: http://www.cnn.com/2003/TRAVEL/DESTINATIONS/11/17/ukraine.yalta.ap/index.html.

No mention of the beautiful Ukrainian women (thankfully), but if the international press continues to sing the praises of Crimea (and it *is* a beautiful place), it is only a matter of time until it is REALLY overrun with tourists.

While in Yalta last summer I noticed a lot of buildings which appeared to be future hotels whose construction process had stopped in the midst of construction. Why this occurred is unknown to me, but if the tourist boom does continue maybe there will be rooms available for all the tourists. But it is not easy to get there for most people, so they must have a real good reason for wanting to going there. Personally it did not strike me as all that interesting a place to see.

Dan, I still thankfully think its a long way off.  Yalta is just too hard to get large numbers of people to to make it cost effective and profitable for many more people than already go there.  In the summer its already wall to wall people in Yalta.  It's a pretty rough drive from Simferopol to Yalta (Don't go in a bus, van, trolley or Lada!), so there's got to be a lot of new infrastructure built before it happens, and I don't see that happenning in Ukraine anytime soon.

Once the major hotel chains start building in Crimea, that will be paradise lost, even though the locals might welcome the tourist dollars and euros. BTW how is baby Katja doing?

I would expect Europeans.  Costs are just too high for Americans to get there, when they could vacation locally cheaper.
