I was told I would need to have my divorce decree "stamped" by the Ukraine embassy/consulate in the US. I live in McAllen, Texas. Does anyone know where I'm supposed to mail this to? Or where CAN I search to get that info? Supposedly this is a new law/rule.

I certified copy of your FINAL DECREE OF DIVORCE has an embossed stamp and seal of the State of Texas and looks and IS as legit as it gets.  I would be surprised if they would not accept this.  I know a lawyer who may be able to make it easier for you to do this.

Follow the instructions provided at the US Embassy in Kiev's website, and you will be just fine.

The concern you are having is over the "authentication" process - and is applicable to YOU becuase you plan to marry in Ukraine. I-130 and DCF (Direct Consular Filing). Is that correct?

It does NOT apply to those whom have brought ladies over on fiance visas.

Anyway - the page on the Embassy's website that addresses this topic is found here = http://www.usemb.kiev.ua/amcit_marriage_civil_eng.html. Read up on the section having to do with "Authentication of documents issued in the US"

I can't seem to speak to a human at the consulate, they don't return phone calls (I didn't expect them honestly), they have NOT returned my e mails, & now it's like I need the seal of my Sec of STate?! Wtf?! It's a damn divorce paper man!!! What's the hold up?! can ANYONE be of any help please!!!

That's a new one on me. I didn't have to do that...

But... In Texas, we use the Washington, DC consulate office.

There is an adjunct in Houston. You might want to email him first to make sure you actually have to do it. I think it is basically a one man office, but he usually responds to email in a day.

Victoria emailed him about doing some notary work for her. (She was still listed on her father's apartment, and he wanted to sell it, so she had to request to be removed from it, or some such thing...)

If you want his email address, drop me an email, and I will forward it to you.
