The other night, I rented "The Man Who Knew Too Little" starring Bill Murray.
It was a huge hit with Victoria and Stas who almost fell off of the couch laughing.
At the end of the movie, for those who haven't seen it, Bill Murray dresses up in Russian Dancer garb and joins a troupe of Russian Dancers to foil a global terrorist plot. It is hysterical.
Incidentally, when they first got here, we ended up chosing mostly action movies, because Victoria and Stas were only understanding maybe 50% of the dialog. But as English skills improved, we can now watch almost anything. (BTW, one of the many great things about my wife is that she *loves* action movies. She studied Tae Kwon Do in Kherson... so bring on any martial arts flick and she is happy... She'd prefer a good Jackie Chan movie to any "Chick Flick...")
They had some trouble with the dialog in "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" (and even more trouble with the plot... but hey, we all did!) but most movies are no problem. (Fast talking black characters still are difficult: i.e. Bad Boys, Chris Tucker in the Jackie Chan movies, etc...)
As far as tastes go, both Victoria and Stas like comedy that is more physical and visual -- even now that they "get" the verbal jokes. I think it is cultural. (They also loved "The Hot Chick".) This is actually good for me, because I generally don't like slapstick, but now I find it funny because I have two people laughing so hard at it that they almost wet themselves. It's hard not to laugh along with them when they get going.
Anyway, if anyone is looking for a comedy, we recommend "The Man Who Knew Too Little..."
