When Marina was first coming over, I warned her that my apartment looked like a battle zone.  She thought I was exagerating, I wasn't.  When she arrived into our little hole in the wall apartment, she about turned around to head back to the airport.  6 hours later, the bathroom and bedroom were barely clean enough for her to sleep.  We spent 2 weeks going over the smallish one bedroom apartment, until it met with her satisfaction.

To say Marina is a cleanliness fanatic is an understatement.  When she's home, she cleans 2 or 3 rooms a day.  Right now, she's dreading what she fears our house is turning into (I'm an incorrigible slob).  Actually, the house isn't too bad.  I try and do a little house cleaning every couple of weeks or so.  Of course, before Marina comes home, I will be spending a couple of days cleaning like a madman... :-)

That is amazing.  Using the information in your profile, I caculate your wife was only about 21 when she first saw your appartment and yet she not only stayed but made it spotless.  That is really surprising.

It was a very trying time for the both of us, when she arrived.  I had moved into the apartment over a year earlier, and most of my stuff was still in boxes.  I had spent that entire year on the road, coming home only to do laundry and sleep.  I have to give Marina a lot of credit for sticking in there and working hard to bring our life together up to a decent standard of living.

What is interesting, is that when we bought our new house, we had to do it all over again, except worse.  The place had broken doors and windows, filthy carpet with holes in it, a broken down fence, leaky roof, water damage, and 2 years worth of garbage in the back yard.  Nowadays, the place is rapidly becoming one of the best in the neighborhood.  My neighbors are quite happy that their property values are going up, because of us.

Call the dumpster people to put a skid container in your front yard and so you can just toss you junk out the window once and for all.

My wife is really big on cleaning. She cleans 2 to 3 times per week (dusting, vaccuming, etc). Even with 2 little kittens and a Great Dane puppy, we are still really clean.

As for the comments about a lack of proper cleaning tools and appliances, I can't relate. My wife was from Moscow and she had everything in her apartment that we have now.

One small correction. When I read my post, one thing may not have been really clear. My wife cleans the house daily, but she does a complete cleaning run 2 to 3 times per week. The spot vaccuming, dusting etc was not considered in my first post.

First time I went to Russia I was shocked to notice Russian people don't even use dishwash...They "rinse" dishes...Water and gas can go "off" for days or even weeks at a time with-out any notices...And when it's time to clean house they have these large straw "whisk-brooms" that only throw the dust around...
No washing machines = clothes "hanging" everywhere to dry...
Need I say anymore Huh
It'll take some time for your lady to learn a new way of life once she is in the USA...

Took me awhile to train her to our way of washing-up the dishes!

She hates vacuum cleaning, which is my job (a fair swap, as she washes the motor)

As for personal hygeine, the cleanest woman I've ever known.

She washes her clothes much more now than when she first arrived, which is due to her having access to automatic washing machine and dryer.

There are days when our house gets somewhat messy, particularly because of our boys (12 and 14), but the difference is best put this way.  When we start cleaning up now because we have company coming over, the house is already as good as I had to work for two days to get it before we were married.

Most of it is just a matter of not getting too far out of hand in the first place.  Right now, I am trying to convert the last vestige of mess--my office--into a place that looks like it fits in with the rest of the house.

Definately not,,,,,, She's not a slob or anything but I can clean circles around her. (Although I am the typical anal German clean freak so I have HIGH standards) It's the little guy that sends me into shock. 43 and never having children of my own,,,,,, WoW, it took some getting used to! But the adjustments are well worth it.

She's not a slob by any means but definitely not a clean freak. Somewhere in the middle which is fine with me. It would drive a true cleaness freak bonkers to live with our little (tom)girl anyway.
