I have a friend who I highly suspect is getting scammed. How much does rent run a Ukrainian (his lady) in Nikolaev? She is claiming a WHOPPING $15 PER DAY!? I told him thats $450 per month! Ridiculous! Anyways if anyone can get me a ballpark figure I would HIGHLY appreciate it.

Don't know about Nikolaev, but I can tell you about Kiev where a flat can be rented by Ukrainians for well under 100 dollars per month.

Pordz, are you referring to on the outskirts of town, across the Dnipper, or a flat 35 minutes walk to the nearest metro?

Frank, if your friend is being charged $15 a day for a flat in Nikolaev he is not being scammed. And at $15 a day I think it's safe to assume the flat is not in the center as even being in the center of the center in Nikolaev a person could easily pay $30 a day.

This flat is NOT for him to rent when he goes over there. That is for his fiance to LIVE IN NIKOLAEV! That doesn't seem right to me from what my friends in Ukrain have told me. For us $15 IS GREAT!!

Frank, rent for Ukrainians will certainly vary, however in Nikolaev I think it is safe to assume that what a Ukrainian might pay per month will vary from about $25 a month to $60 a month. I do not believe any Ukraine person in Nikolaev could afford to pay $15 a day for flat rental, so indeed, something does not sound write if a lady is telling your friend this. Many places will offer people a place to stay for $1, $2, $3 a night.

Perhaps the landlord is under the impression that that apartment is being financed by an American?  Even so, something doesn't seem quite right here.

A good Ukrainian girl would not allow this to happen.
