Hi, I need some help from guys who have married or are marrying a girl from Belarus.

I have a girl in Belarus who I've been talking to on the phone for quite some time, and am going to visit some time soon. She is an intelligent girl, but she keeps telling horror stories about the amount of red tape in Belarus, and how difficult it is to get out of the country even if you are marrying someone. Basically, I've got two questions. She also personally knew two girls who married someone overseas, and talks from their experience.

1. The officials won't let the girls out of the country even if they have a fiancee visa to marry someone abroad. To solve that problem she says, gentlemen have to marry them in Belarus, only then they will be allowed out.

2. Even in case she's already married to someone, she says it takes an enormous amount of time to get an exit visa. Even bribing the officials doesn't seem to help much.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

I have been seeing more and more women from Belarus on the introduction sites. I wonder why?

While other FSU states have been opening up to free market reforms, Belarus is stuck with a communist quasi-dictatorship. Conditions there are much worse than in Russia or Ukraine and average salary is $30 a month.

sounds like an easy way to get out of the counrty, marry some american who thinks he can save her by marrying her in her counrty, instead of in the USA. remember, once she is here in the USA under a spousal visa, she is here for good unlike the 90 day limit on the K1.

Belarus is still under the domination of Soviets era communists. Even so, I think what your friend tells you is in error. I may be wrong, but it sounds more like the typical FSUW belief in superstition and rumor over reality and fact. Or worse, these misrepresentations could be the prelude to a scam (this is what it sounds like).

Keep us apprised at to what you find out DIRECTLY FROM THE HORSE'S MOUTH (the governments of our's and their's).

Unless, there is an issue with the old San Marino office, lad. The finest (Chenault's, Patton's, MacArthur's of 'our chapter' - filled my old 320i's trunk- with zee best of 'our history' - upon the closing of the regional branch.

Here is  a link from the US embassy in Minsk. The info is pertinent to all foreigners. See the page on marriage in Belarus. If you get more info on this problem, please post it as i am interested in a lady in writing to a lady from Belarus.

Not personal, but this little story was on TV this week.

A family has applied for asylum in my country; refused. But when they were sent home, the belyarussian authorities said: They are NOT from Belyarussia.
