The Russian law clearly states that it regards its citizens as citizens of only Russian Federation, which means that if you become a Russian citizen, you will no longer enjoy the protection of the US while on the Russian territory.
Then, for example, if you are detained by the russian police, you may (and probably will) be refused any help from the US consulate or embassy on a legal basis.
IMHO, it's a crazy idea.
