Hello all,

Suppose a UW finally receives her visa, but then the relationship falls to pieces, before she leaves for the US. According to INS procedures, it appears I should contact the INS in writing, and tell them the marriage will not take place.

What I need to know is, once the INS is informed, will they request she return/destroy the visa, or will they deny her entrance at the point-of-entry, or will they even care at this point, provided she doesn't overstay the visa, IF she decides to try and use it?

My cousin e-mailed the Embassy and they must of told him what to do. Anyway don't worry too much. If you want to cover yourself then write a letter to the service center stating you split up with her before she left her country. This way you can start over if you want. I've read that the sponsership thing (I-134)doesn't hold up in court so that is why some Embassies don't even require it anymore, so you are not responsable for her until you get married, besides there aren't too many ( if any )state programs that she could use anyway sense she is technically more like a tourist. so if she comes here it wont effect you anyway.

It is my understanding that you must notify the INS in writing and her visa will be cancelled. She cannot legally use this visa for any purpose other than to be with you. How they would know at the POE that this visa is no longer valid, I don't know. I would call the INS A.S.A.P. to protect yourself.

The visa is permanently attached to her passport so it would be difficult to return it without removing the whole page which I think would be defacing the document and could cause suspicion as to where those pages went at a later date. Maybe she should go to an Embassy and have it voided.

Sorry that things didn't work out (especially after going through the hassles to get a visa) but sometimes "you have to know when to fold 'em". Take a break and then get back on that horse!

Just read about Jim getting hitched.

I'm sort of wondering what info. was in Violettas book that she gave to Irina.  Did it contain info. as to where to get papers translated, where to get a passport and photos.

I send Ira money, but nothing gets done.  I'm about to fold it on her and look else where.  I don't know how many red flags it will take... I'm just curious what kind of vibes Violetta got from Irina ~ as to her seriousiness as to the process.

My hands are like tied.  But they're about to be thrown into the air as I start over on the whole process and find someone else.

I should have listen to Rostick and Jack... about picking one with a kid.  If she's not upset that your leaving at the airport that's a bad sign...  I don't know everyone is different I guess.

Airfares have skyrocketed since Bush is putting a tariff on foreign steel products.  bummer.

Perhaps the steel tariffs have had and effect, but I have been more concerned about the pending ban on Russian aircraft which do not meet EU noise regulations.  I understand that some 2/3rds of the Russian commercial jets do not meet the standards, and cannot be modified.  The ban goes into effect April 1st.  I have been following this in the Russian media over the last several months.  Since my wife, son and I are planning on a trip to Ukraine this August, I have been concerned that if there is a significant reduction in "seats" available for travel to Russia via Aeroflot, and other eastern european airlines which fly Tupolevs, etc., between EU countries  and the CIS, the result might be higher than the usual Summer prices.  So, I purchased our tickets the last day of February, as Uzbekistan Airlines prices were set to increase about $200 per ticket on March 1st.  The March 1st prices appear to be about the same as we paid early last June for travel at the end of June.  Who knows, I may have worried about nothing, I don't usually plan this far ahead, but I figured I'd take a chance.

Of course, no bright idea goes unpunished, and now it seems that INS in Manhattan has "misplaced" my wife's file.  Until it is found, they cannot process an advance parole request.  My congressman is on the case, and I hope it is worked out in the next several weeks.

... in response to Skyrocketing Airfares, posted by DJD on Mar 24, 2002

I was looking at flying over around April 17-25 and at their website they were asking about $750 bucks... not bad at all.

(especially for me, I've got a $300 wavier ticket due to being bumped off a flight to Miami recently on military orders- whoever heard of that.  So they buttered me up, with either a roundtrip to the lower 48 or $300.  No doubt, I grabbed that $300.

WS Bill is correct about NWA / KLM having good prices at the moment.   I have noticed the same thing for flights in May.

If  you leave near several airports that NWA serves, try pricing all airport.  Also, try leaving from one airport and returning to another.  For example, I have found it cheaper at times to leave from Fort Lauderdale and return to Miami than to fly from and return to the same airport.
