I have read several different things concerning getting married in the Ukraine. I know there is a waiting period of about 30 days. Does anyone know exactly what that time frame is? I just need to know so I can schedule everything to be able to be there long enough to take care of that. I have tried to look for this at the U.S. Embassy in Kiev website but it is down. Also what is the processing time for filing the I-130 at the consulate in Warsaw? Thanks

The 30-day "waiting period" you mention is the official time you are supposed to live in the country AFTER you file with the ZAGS office, and before you actually have the wedding ceremony. Fortunately, you should be able to almost entirely eliminate this wait by finding a malleable ZAGS office.

From there, you need to file I-130 with the US Embassy (Consular section) in Kyiv, and they will coordinate the processing in Warsaw. I believe, though I could be wrong, that any interviews will still be conducted in Warsaw. Processing time - assuming everything is in perfect order - is in the 2 to 3 month range.

Check the links to other boards from this website that specialize in providing information about the forms and process. I believe you will find them at the link entitled "Immigration" in the left frame of this site.

I hope this helps.

It may be a better idea to get married here.  I have read that about 50% of women coming to the USA on a K-1 visa return without getting married.  You want to use that 90 days the K-1 gives you to assess your compatibility and to see if she can adjust.  A K-1 is also supposed to be the quicker process in getting her over here.  I have read a K-3 can take from 4 months to 1 year to bring a girl over.  I remember reading one man's comment that it took so long to get the girl over she just decided to divorce him.  She might have thought he wasn't trying rather than the INS wasn't trying.

Sorry, nobody is posting much lately.  I guess they left the country.
