I just received the notice of approval. What is the next step and how do you expedite the process?

I can only speak for dealing with Warsaw but I think most embassys are the same--  fax them a copy of your 2nd NOA and ask them to open up a Provisional file for you-
next get your Fiance if possible to get her medical exam.. go to your embassys website and download packets 3 and 4 and send them hopefully by email or whatever to your fiance to fill out... if I have left anything out check the website and perhaps someone else can chime in... good luck

All due respect, but it is probably better to have Moscow and Warsaw questions answered separately--there are a lot of differences between the two processes.

where does reagan mention in his original post that he was dealing with moscow and not warsaw??  other then that thanks for providing info about moscow the same way I stated in my post that my info was about warsaw...

No problem Steve,  thanks for showing some class with the apology.  You just earned quite a bit or respect from me for it... unfortunately not all who post here have the same amount of class...some do but not all...

and thanks for helping out with the info about moscow... I must admit I was not aware that they did not require the i 169 form as warsaw does for the interview.. I have not been following planet love as often as I use too so I do not know if reagan has mentioned in the past whether or not he was interviewing in moscow or warsaw only that he did not in the post I replied too... and I wanted to help him the same way you did... so I am glad you were able to set him straight about moscow... all the best,

perhaps you have already done most of this but in case you havent... get her police certification , get translations,  by the way you need to get her to do the I 169 form as soon as possible and get her case number- probaly after you have emailed the embassy and faxed them your approval notice- it is possible they already have your approval notice- so you can call or email them to get it- and then put it on the I 169  and fax to embassy requesting interview date after you have filled out all forms... you can also check alvenas website etc.  for procedure.. once again good luck

Sometimes when Im in a hurry I leave some important things out...  The I 169 form is basically a check list that your fiance has done all she needs to do to be ready for the next part of the process. It will speed up your date for an interview once she has sent it or you have faxed it to your embassy ( assuming your embassy accepts faxes- warsaw says it does)  . Warsaw wants you to have your WRW or case number on the 169 form- you can get it once the embassy has your noa2 approval- you can fax your copy to expedite things - you could also call to see if they already have it. Then put the number on your 169 form send it to your embassy...

This is simply not true for Moscow.  You do not need to do anything to get your interview date there.  However, if you did not file through Vermont, it may be worthwhile to ask them to open a provisional file.  With Vermont, chances are they will have the approval before you can ask.

More important, at this stage, is to make sure things on her end that require time are being taken care of:  getting police reports and getting an international passport (if she doesn't already have on) are two things that can take a couple of months under some circumstances.

Can you elaborate more on the Moscow process.  I'm filing from Nebraska SC so I know there are some differences from your Vermont SC filing location.  I have just received the 1st NOA.  So at this point, is there anything we should be doing?  (We're collecting the paperwork, signing the OF-169, etc).  We have not asked for police reports as yet -- I figured you needed some sort of form or something to get the police to issue them.  Plus I figured they might not be good for x number of months in case of a delay in the 2nd NOA processing.  How long do police reports generally take?

When we get the 2nd NOA, what is a plan of action?  Fax the embassy, open the provisional file, send them the 169?  Email them?  Call them?  Wait for the embassy to receive the official paperwork from Nebraska SC?

Hey Dave,

At this point (NOA #1), I think your best plan may be to head over to Doc Steen's site and spend some time going through the Russia pages.

As far as what to do after you get the approval, you do not need to send in OF-169 to get an interview scheduled.  However, you may be expediting the process somewhat by asking them to open a provisional file, since you are filing at NSC.  There's a page on the site about that.

Never too early to start doing the police certificates, I think.  They are good for a year.  She will need them from every place she has lived for 6 months (?) since 16, and in her maiden and any married names for any relevant period of time.

Also, do make sure she has an international passport, or is getting started on getting one.

Just to make sure I understood your message -- wait for the 2nd NOA to contact Moscow to open a provisional file?  Or try to open it now?  I think it is the former but I don't want to miss any bets whatsoever.

Thanks for the reply.  I have read Doc Steen's pages and will continue to reread them as the scenario progresses thru the various steps.

Dave,

I don't think Moscow would be interested in starting a file before you get your approval.  You are not missing anything by waiting for the 2nd NOA.

Here are some things to do in the mean time:

1.  Clean up your house.  No really, not just like you do.  Maybe get the carpet cleaned, the windows washed, etc.

2.  Get rid of any unfortunate pictures of you with ex-wife, girlfriend, boyfriend or very pettable farm animal.

3.  Find a single friend to take any magazines, videos or CD-ROMs that you won't be needing once you are blissfully married.

4.  Find Russian language grocery stores, book stores and online events calendar for your city.

5.  Talk to your friends, catch up on your reading, and watch some of the baseball games this month, because...

Things will be getting more hectic a few months from now, if all goes according to plan.

Do you have her case #? (WAC-###...)  If so, then you can contact whichever embassy you will be dealing with and request that a provisional file be opened and the required background check begun.  This will expedite the process.  When the INS paperwork is cabled to the embassy, they will be sending a packet of info to your fiancée.  She will be instructed on how to go about getting her police cert.
