Of the six service centers across the US, is it possible to file in any of them, or do you have to file in the center that covers the state you live in?

Thanks,
Greg

There are only four Regional Service Centers, not six: California, Texas, Nebraska, and Vermont.

For those forms that are to be filed at a Regional Service Center, where you file depends on where you live or your residence address. If you send a form to the wrong Service Center, they will eventually either send it back to you or forward it to the center that has jurisdiction over your place of residence.

Some forms are sent to a central mailing address regardless of where you live. File according to the current instructions for each form.

Thanks for the info. Is it worth claiming residence in Vermont to speed up the process, since they seem to be the fastest?

I live in North Carolina and sent my petition to Texas.  Texas then sent the petition to California.  Our receipt date was May 4th.  California is now processing everything dated April 1st as of today.  They are very fast in California.  If Vermont is  faster than California then  it shouldn't be a very long wait at all.

Good luck to you.

If you want to file with Vermont, make sure your address listed on all forms is in a state under their jurisdiction. Remember that you will need to sign the forms under penalty of perjury that all information is true and correct. Your employer letter, tax returns, and W-2s should also use the same address/location.

What petition are you filing? Vermont is usually faster for fiancée visas but California is very close behind and Texas/Nebraska have been forwarding many of their petitions to California for much faster processing.

You have to file in the area you live. If you send it to the wrong area then you
are just adding time to your visa
