Anybody have any suggestions on where to stay in Medillin.  Would like to stay mid range price where there might be a safe included for passport and stuff.  Also, anybody know of a guide, male or female, that knows the city well.  I speak spanish but would like a guide for a day or two to get to know the city.  Thanks.

My novia is a caleña that has family in Medellín.  We visited her grandmother there back in January.  Poblado is the expensive area of town, if you want the high price places, stay there.  It also has the best restaurants and malls, so you are convienent.  There are other cheaper areas of town, though still nice.  You may want to check the WLC board, a couple guys have been there recently and have given hotel info.  We stayed at her grandmothers place in Laureles, so I can't give you first hand hotel info.

In December of 2003 we stayed in Poblado at the Park 10 which is the quality of the Dann but a little cheaper. You can see the Dann from the Park 10. Very nice and quite. We lucked out with an excellent guide who lived in the states for ten years and speak good English. His name is Ivan Dario Velez and the cell phone is 57310-448-8236. You may mention that George Harrison referred you to him. I think that he will remember me. My wife's name is Maria Del Pilar. He is very cheap and quite knowledgable. He took us all over the town in a new car that he owns and then we spent a day in the easte which is toward the airport but there are many beautiful little villages that he took us to see. You would not regret this experience for one moment. He has a good sense of humor and keep you laughing a lot .... good luck

The Plaza Rosa in the El Poblado neighborhood on cra 32 or the The Hotel Laureles in the Estadio/Laureles neighborhoods are both good and reasonably priced.  Can't really recommend anyone for a guide but you might try the taxis in front of the InterContinental Hotel in the Las Palmas area  in El Poblado).  Many speak English and are reasonable.

BTW the city is spelled Medellin
