Matching American Movies with Spanish Titles?

Does anyone know of a good internet resource to match American movies to Spanish titles?

Finding movies you want to see in Latin America can be difficult when renting a movie, or inquiring at the theatre, since they often CHANGE the TITLE and  MEANING of the title in Spanish.

For example, the old movie "Big" by Tom Hanks.  In Spanish, they changed (not translated) the title to mean "I Want to Be Big".  This is problematical in trying to track movies in LA...

Or to even ask a Latina: "Have you seen the movie called (insert english name here)?"  To which her response will usually be "No".  Therefore you must describe the plot of every movie to see if either of you has seen a movie that the other person likes...

So back to my question...

Does anyone know of a good internet resource to match American movies to Spanish titles?

this is one of many that i've seen, i don't have the links to all, if i remember them i'll post them. i would look up colombian newspapers on the internet or any latin american news/web page and check under "cine", they would have listings of current movies in spanish or try yahoo in spanish under their entertainment or movie section or google.com.co

Hey Looking!   That is a very good question.   I have had similar things happen to me in the past…   She would ask me if I wanted to go see a particular movie, I would say yes, let’s go… we arrive at the cinema to have me find out that I have already seen the movie and the title of the movie is totally different.    It does not matter whether you are fluent in the language or not if a person asks you the specific question and the title is totally different from the version you have seen previously you are not going to know and can be surprised.     I cannot remember the translated (conversions/renaming) titles of the movies that I have seen in the past but it did happen several times…   Also while at the cinema it was interesting to see how some of the titles have changed on other movies that I have seen.   Some are translated almost exactly while others are renamed even though there would be an appropriate translated wording if it was translated; they instead just give it a totally different name… I guess we should just not go by the title but also ask a little more of what the movie is about and who the actors are… It does seem that there is a few months delay in the movies we see here before they appear down there…   The one thing that I did enjoy was the assigned seating that was available… I do not know about other parts of this country but for me that was something that was different along with the whole atmosphere of food, drinks and tables available before the movie at the locations I did my viewings.    Anyway, do we really want to be paying attention to the movie if we are with that special woman???

I have found most of the tiles to be easy to decode, for example, "El Planeta de los Simios" is "Planet of the Apes".  Or better yet, just pick up the local newspaper and look at the picture ads... it will become immediately apparent.

You are correct!   For me it really has not been a problem.    It is more or less amusing to see how some of the translations or renaming occurs.   When I arrived at the cinema and saw the billboards I then saw how different the wordings were on some of the titles...When you see the ads in most cases it is obvious, and for the most it was not so important as to what I was going to see but rather who I was sharing my time with.
