First of there is a lot of ground between a Rich and having no money and an ugly woman and a beauty queen. I think most people want a combination of of some sort.
Second, I agree that this is how things are in the USA (and other places as well) but that's because we have designed it that way. Now that brings me to a discussion that I would rather not have here and now so I won't go there.
Finally, just because that’s the way things are here doesn't mean that a man or a woman has to settle for just that. In my opinion, any man or woman that strictly follows that thought process is doomed to repeat the vicious cycle endless failure in relationships, not to mention never finding or being found by love. [I'm not saying or thinking that you actually meant to imply that either]
In fact most women (Latin or otherwise) want a handsome guy. Belief in anything else is criminal. Now North American men are exotic to them just as much as they are exotic to us. Additionally, they (women) don't place as high of emphasis on looks as men do.
