Hello from Cartagena!

Life is wonderful here at the Almirante! Wonderful atmosphere.  This si a city that caters to tourists and I've seen other gringos with Colombian women. A Foreign Affair has a big presence here i talked with another American guy from Michigan and thius is his first time in Colombia.

The history of the place is fantastic, if you close your eyes and use your imaagination you can see Morgan's fleet in the harbor and bucaneers swilling rum in the taverns.  It seems to be much safter, but I haven't gone anywhere with more then the equivalent of 40 USD in my pocket.   The women are darker, and beautiful, the pace is so much slower the Bogota.

I checked in with Latin Destinations, Gloria Blakely runs a very nice agency and seems to have insights about all the womeen.  She is informative but ladylike.

Here's the story of how I chose Cartagena for my last week in Colombia.  A year or so ago, when i was just starting this adventure, I bought some addresses from latin Destinations and one of them was one of the most stunningly beautiful faces I've ever seen, a then 34 year old Colombiana, divorced with a then 16 year old daughter who lived in Cartagena. I had enailed her, but didn;t have enough Spanish or guts to call her and I had no immediate plans toi go to Colombia.  We exchanged very short emails for a week or so and then she dropped off the radar.  A year later (this June)I took her on line photo as well as some other photos to show Odee and LAI the kinds of women that attracted me, as well as hard copies of my rmail correspondence so I could practice my Spanish pronunication out liud.

Last week, I was extremely happy with LAI's service, did my best tto be pleasant to all the people at the office and showed my appreciation. One of the ladies in the office gave me back papers form my file, noticed that this particular woman lived in Cartagena and she asked if I had met her yet.  I said no, I had thought of trying to call her while I was in Colombia and re-introduce myself but I just had not done it.  Well, the LAI lady jumped all over me, and asked me if I beleived in romkance and if I wanted her to call this woman in Cartagena and see if she could arrange an introduction for me.  I said sure and the enxt day, she told me she had tracked the lady down, sent my photo and the long email I had written to her a year ago by fax to the lady's office in Cartagena, and (I assume) given her impressions of what kind of gentleman I was.  U was told that the lady in Cartagena was surprised to get a call from  an agency in Bogota, but it seesm as I have a date tomorrow for drinks after her work. Naturally I asked whether the lady in Cartagena remmebered me and the diplomatic response was: "it wasn't really discussed,"

Just an observation, you can never be too polite here in Colombia,  I I never expected this to happen and talk about going the extra mile...!

So I booked a plane ticket and that is what I meant being in Cartagena on a flyer.  After meeting so many women in the alst three weeks in Bogota, I'm not trying to place any extra emphasis on this meeting, but I have to admit I've got a little adrenalin pumping, I've never taken a plane just to keet one specific woman and its the blindest date i've ever had!

I've mmt 4 other women since I've been here, intodructions arranged by the aqgency, went out last night for dinner and dancing with a lively lady, 38, the owner of a small bodega, a lot of friendly small tlak and some lovely kisses in the moonlight.  Her family has lived in cartagena sice the 18th century, i doubt if she is going anywhere.   I have no plans tonight, so I'm sitting here looking at the water after a wonderful paella.

D.,

Good for you! My first experience in Colombia was similar, I took off to Cartagena from Bogota to meet one lady. A risk, but it really paid off for me. And you can't beat the city, it's a great place and I love it there. Even if nothing came of any meetings, you can't lose by going to Cartagena because the city has so much to offer in the way of history, etc. Enjoy!

Great post, Dom!

Cartagena was the city I visited on my very first trip to Colombia.  I also love the history of the city.  I took a tour and the guide was very knowledgeable of the touristy areas.  The larger part of the city where the locals live is on the mainland, across a small river and away from the peninsula of Boca Grande and the Old City.  Everyone discouraged me from exploring there at any time of day.  However, I like the water and was not impressed with the beaches even though the Rosary Islands are very nice.

Your posts are a very welcome change from the nonsense Aaron has started.  Keep them coming!
