I sent several mails, which included document, photos and money, to Russia and Ukraine in various occasions all via USPS. All but one reached the destinations intact. The only one, which got lost, was certified and contained valueless documents. All others, uncertified , reached the destinations intac including greenbacks.

I would send photos via USPS uninsured and uncertified. If they get lost, I would send the duplicates again. It may still be cheaper than Fedex.

I'm not sure about Odessa, but I've sent all my packages through the USPS, airmail.  I insure the contents and register the package to make sure it gets there.  Sometimes a package gets opened, but everything still arrives.  I send mail to Sevastopol and Zhitomir and I don't have any problems.

Hope this helps.

I send my photos by AIRMAIL at the post office. Takes about 10 days to arrive.

Depends on where she lives,  what city and country? I find USPS to be the best value for small packages.  There is regular mail, Golbal Express (great value but not available to all locations) and Priority Expressmail.  Check the website for more info.

I should have said that she is Odessa Ukraine. I have heard that packages have a tendency to be opened, not that I'm concerned about pictures being looked at. :-)

if it is just photos - and not too heavy - try usps air mail.  When I was doing this, it would take about 10 days to Kiev. Cost: $0.80 an once: about $2.40 for 3 ounces.
