Cell Phone Usage in Ukraine

Does anyone know if rental of a cell phone is possible in Ukraine? How costly is it? I would like to keep in contact w/ America while I am there. Thanks

I have been told by my cell phone provider that I can rent a phone from them that will be compatible over there.  Long distance may be pricey however.  Also, VoiceStream phones are European compatible.

My understanding is some of the agencies or services will rent them.  i think firstdream has been used by others.

That being said, service contracts that tie you up for a year or more at a time are not the norm. Usually you buy a card for so many days (30 days) and they program a code into your phone to allow you to use it during that time. So it may be economical to buy a phone there and then get cards whenever you're in country.
