Today my wife decided to go out and see what and who her son
was playing with. Well alittle while after the son comes home and
looks for his mother about 1 minute. I told him that his mother
went outside looking for him and he should go find her, instead he
poured himself a bowl of frosty flakes. I finally went to look for her
outside and she came walking down the road. Her son opened the
door and waved to his mom like it was no big deal. I told him to
shut the door and finish his flakes since that was the most
important thing right now....

Well very good and stay the course.  Just remember just because one is generous one in life does not necessarily mean in the end one will receive the thanks in life.

Well since the kid ignored you and ate frosty flakes, apparently the kid feels he does not have to listen to you, and by you not enforcing your desires to this child, you apparently do not understand the long term results of this sort of behavior.  Families are not democracy's, children do have a voice, but do not have a vote.  You need to decide who is going to be head of your family, you, your wife, or the kid.
Wait until the kid gets older (I assume he is not your kid), so do not be surprised the day and or year will come when your wife very well reminds you it is her kid and not yours--and then you will realy be hung.
Nothing personal but you wrote the post.

My step son actually does listen to me, I really was not demanding he go look
for his mom but it just amazed me that food won out over his mother when it
came to his being hungery.
My wife supports me when I lay the law down to him and will say nothing
when she does not like a decision I have made. She will wait until we are alone
to say anything.  I think overall he has changed alot from when he was in
Colombia. When he is told to do something he does not whine and cry or stomp
his feet he does it which is very good. In Colombia he would not do anything
without a fight. I think alot of it had to do with not having a father who laid the
law down to him. My step son has adpated pretty well to the U.S. when it is cold
he does not care and he loves tony the tiger.

when it comes to your step-son. Any immediate response in front of the boy, might have given him confidence to challenge you in the future. Glad to hear, that he is adapting...
