Michael B,

You seem like a nice guy, so let me give you some friendly advice-- rent the DVD set of Gone With The Wind.  You and your wife will enjoy it, and I think that you will come to the conclusion that most of us do- it is indeed, THE FINEST MOVIE EVER MADE!  Take care.

Pete,

You are hilarious!  Your attitudes and perceptions also sound like my dad.  He is always commenting about someone else who looks old-- and sometimes these people are younger than he is. ha  Dad is 72.  At any rate, as all of us get older, it is often hard to comprehend the passage of time.  I must confess that I am becoming more like that all the time.  By the way, Bob's character on Dobie Gillis was Maynard G. Krebs, the beatnik.  All of that was in the late '50's, and I remember watching that show.  Maynard was funny, but when Bob Denver became Gilligan, he could have never known or understood that the show would continue into reruns for 40 years and counting.  Part of that was because Ted Turner bought the rights to the show back in the '70s, along with The Andy Griffith Show; when he launched TBS.  So, Gilligan's Island joined the rerun heavyweights, like Andy Griffith, I Love Lucy, and the Honeymooners, among others.  That is really good company, in my opinion.  It sure beats the new crap that TV has on now!!

P.S.  I am an old movie buff, and Classic TV fan!!  I have even got to meet a few of the stars of days gone by.  That will have to wait for some later post.

Michael,  It is  noteworthy that many of Bob's co-stars on that show are also part of the dearly departed.  Jim Backus, who played Thurston Howell III, and Natalie Schaffer, who was Lovie, his wife.  But, the one I miss is Alan Hale Jr., who was the Skipper.  As goofy as that show was, it did develop a loyal fan base.  Besides, I had many fantasies of chasing Mary Ann and Ginger around that island!! ha  The only thing that topped that was a bad case of the hots for Barbara Eden in that Genie outfit!!
