I e-mail an inquiry to Brazil Consulate Chicago and got no response and no human being to talk to when I phone the Conuslate. Could anyone please give assistance.

I am seeking a list of approved translators (if possible in the Kansas City, Missouri area) that can translate documents. I intend to marry my fiance in  Brazil sometime in November this year. Does anyone know where I might obtain this information?

From one of the web sites:

"All documents must be translated to Brazilian Portuguese by a translator approved by the Brazilian Consulate or Government. (Call the Brazilian Consulate nearest you for suggested approved translators.) They must also be "legalized" at the Brazilian Consulate where the American gentleman resides. Waiting times to accomplish a civil ceremony marriage and obtain the all-important marriage certificate can vary greatly, sometimes weeks and even months."

Thanks guys.

T.o.e.u.f,

Not any certified translators as yet. I would greatly appreciate it if you could leave me a few names and phone numbers of who I might get in contact with. My fiance is struggling trying to get a handle on all the paper work/documents she'll need on her end and I'm trying to guide her in the right direction while pulling things together on my end. If the U.S. Consulate in Rio will accept her documents without translation into English I am not sure. Difficult isn't the word for what I experienced when trying to reach a person to talk to. I just want to be sure and have all my bases covered. I am thankful for whatever you can do.

It's important that you have your translations notorized in your home state so the notorization can be apostilled, a requirement on international documents. I bring this up because I found an oficial translater in the St. Louis yellow pages who happened to be in Texas. Thought no problem, fax back and forth but when I took my notarized translation to get the apostille they told me "out of state notory, forget about it.
