Hi All,
Well I got the letter yesterday, after 41 days, Trang's Fiancee Visa Aplication was approved by INS. The letter said that her information was beening sent to NVC and that I should hear from then in 2 to 4 week about her interview date. I think she will have to go to Ho Chi Min City for her interview but I am not sure. Dose anyone know about how long the finnal part of this process takes? When can I posibly expect to have her here with me?

... in response to Trang's Fiancee Visa Aproved, posted by GregF on May 18, 2004

Greg,

Here is a timeline of my current experience in Vietnam getting a K1 visa.  I have kept a log due to the problems that developed.

KI  TIMETABLE

Nov 5, 2003   Nebraska service center receives my application
Mar 25, 2004  Nebraska service center approves my application and sends it to New Hampshire National Visa Center (NVC)
Apr 9, 2004    Letter dated from NVC says they will send application to US Consulate in Saigon.
Apr 28, 2004  Email inquiry to HCM Consulate: Did you receive file?
Apr 28, 2004  HCM Consulate responds: we received efile but not physical file and must wait for physical file. (!!!)
Apr 29, 2004  I call NVC to doublecheck that they sent the file.  They claim physical file sent to HCM Consulate Apr 8 via DHL.
Apr 29, 2004  Email inquire to HCM Consulate again: Please check carefully because if you really don’t have the file then it may be lost.  How do I proceed?
May 3, 2004   HCM Consulate responds: we received efile but not physical file and must wait for physical file.
May 10, 2004  I hand-deliver letter to my congresswoman telling her file is lost and I need her help.

I have no way of knowing where the file is, but my hunch is that it is in a DHL box with others sitting in a corner of an office of the US Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City because they are understaffed or too disorganized to process the files.  (The only other alternatives are that the NVC lied and they never sent it or that DHL lost it.) I can only have faith that my Congresswoman can crack the whip and get them to process the file.
