Are you from Surigao, or have you just spent a lot of time there.
Either way , what is the cost to fly there, is it safe in that region
and would you recommend it as an alternative to Sabang, Puerto Galera
etc, for beaches, diving etc, and is it so isolated to the point of boredom or is it a fun place

Hey outwest77,

My wife is from the Surigao area. I just use the handle to make myself seem well traveled. Cost and mode of travel to Surigao depends. They stopped the Super-Cat ferry from Cebu, but you can take the Super Ferry there on an overnight trip. I think about twenty bucks gets you a first class cabin. The last time we took a prop plane to Surigao for about forty bucks a piece.

Surigao is a nice small city but besides local sight seeing there are no beaches or night life. the one good hotel is called the Gateway and its like a Best Western in comfort with the suites running a little over forty bucks a night.
The region is safe with all the trouble in Southern Mindanao.
If you have a penpal in that area, by all means go there. The people are warm and friendly. I plan to build a house and retire there.

Take care,
Surigao Ken

Outwest77,

Yea, that's Siargao Island off the coast of Surigao, about two to three hours boat ride. Never been there but my wife says it is nice. Pansukian resort is on the high end with surf camps on the low end.
Hey, if you go, give us a trip report.

Take care,
Surigao Ken
