...Zink, how do you know it's not doing it? Are you behind a personal firewall? If not, you may not see it. I'm no expert either but I know this:

Even when I was *not* using it, KaazaLite was making numerous connection attempts to the Internet. (My firewall stopped it and reported these attempts.) The problem is this: The "normal" version of Kaaza has a .dll file in it that supports the Spyware and is required for Kaaza to operate. As the URL you posted indicates, the author of Lite modified this file to make it "harmless".

Well, it may not run the spyware any longer but that Lite makes attempts to connect every few minutes, even when KaazaLite is *not* open. I could've looked at who it was trying to talk to but I just wiped it clean after I watched it do this for 30 minutes.

It may be harmless or it may not. Since I assume you have a dial up connection it's not a big deal, if you have DSL or cable it could be. Trust me, it's sending *something* out when you're online, even when it's closed. Get a firewall, try Zonelab's free one. You'll be amazed at who's accessing your machine every few minutes when you're online.

I'll check it out. I don't have a firewall. I do have dial up so it isn't really a major deal. My computer is only on line for a few minutes a day unless I'm downloading. How do you tell that it is trying to connect and who it is trying to connect to?

And as far as accessing my computer... You don't think I'm stupid enough to use my computer for anything really important? This thing is only for entertainment and accessing the outside world. I'm more worried about getting another virus than I am about people accessing my stuff. If I had something to hide I wouldn't put it on my computer.

....www.zonelabs.com and download their free firewall. Learn how to configure and use it, then watch as it stops both incoming and out going requests. You'll be amazed.

I know what you mean about sensitive stuff on a PC. Everytime I see those guys with "Federal Agent" on their jackets wheeling a PC outta somebody's house on a two wheel dolly, it gives me the heebie geebies. Thats the downside of this technology, makes it real easy for them to collect everything at once.

My brother-in-law works for the local internet provider. He's an advanced programmer(I forget the exact title). Not long ago he was in Seattle in a court case over somone making threats against Clinton. He and some security people from here were there submitting evidence taken from a guys computer. The guy was American but he lived a short distance east of here when he was making threats. The guy was a total wacko and had even planted fake bombs in courthouses up here so the RCMP were after him too. Never even made the news here.

Now thats the best advice I have heard for years. Spot on, Zone Labs free software does a very smart job.

Hey LP havent seen one of those 'high-noon' shoot outs for a while! Nice to have something to laugh at now and again, it makes my world keep moving.

Best wishes to all

...I'll take that as a compliment. Not much point any more though, I've learned enough about the kind of people who make up the majority of the guys involved that it's futile to attempt "de-delusionizing" them. As I've said, one can't reason with a drunken man.

Besides, Patrick is mighty quick with the scalpel these days. Too bad you missed my reply to the tribe's resident medicine man. lol, like shootin fish in a barrel. Now *there* is one angry, misinformed, no confidence dude.

But standby, this dusty street could empty at anytime and the only sound will be the creak of the saloon doors and the rusty sign swaying in the wind.

Compliment, wouldnt say it any other way these days. I think IFR taught me to look at the 'world' from a different perspective. Think hard before the brain throws everything (including keyboard fingers) into gear !

You'r right. The 'medicine man' AND the transitional 'custodians' of this place are almost puting this board and most of its followers, into some form of mesmerism with their adrenalin rushes to and from the FSU.

Talking of drunk men; it's 1400 here, CAB perfect, 25c, 2 drums going into the YAK(52) at 1500, I think she might get a  bit of a massage today. There's nothing like a good Babushka to get 'Ya Drunk'.I reckon every 10 minutes spent in her is worth at least 6 Fosters on a day like today.

Cheers

....good plan alright. I've heard the 52 is a sweet old Russian gal to caress but I've never had the pleasure, maybe next time I'm down under you can introduce me to her. Lol, she's even better than six of those big Fosters? Yikes!

Have fun, just try to stay outta the trees. ;-)

www.kazaa.com

You can post urls without the "dot com" trick as long as they aren't on the spam list.

It's shareware. Like Napster used to be. If you have fast internet (I have cable) you can download songs in less than a minute. The russian tapes are just like songs, MP3's. I'm thinking of putting them on there but not sure.
