Pete, I stumbled across a full page ad in El Pais last week for Dell - Colombia. I don't think there is a store in Cali (maybe Bogota or Medellin?), but it looks like you can order (and configure it) online and have it delivered. Here is the address: http://www1.la.dell.com/content/default.aspx?c=co&l=es&s=gen&~ck=bt You can probably find better deals in the US but you can't beat it for convenience. CAUTION: Before you purchase one, remember one thing! Laptops tend to grow legs and walk away very easily in the US, so being that this is Colombia... Try Costco. I work with a guy who bought his Laptop at Costco, they have a 6 month return policy. Every 6 months he returns his computer and buys a new. He gets the latest for the same money. I do not believe I could afford one, maybe I could rent for a little while though. Title: Re: I hear they are very expensive Post by: OkieMan on February 19, 2005, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to I hear they are very expensive, posted by Malandro on Feb 19, 2005
Yeah, aint' it the truth. No, in all seriousness, I have a calena who is hot for me, and I have to go see her soon! She is so great looking, but no 38DD. But, I still prefer the "natural boobs" to the fake 38DD. Now, earlier on, I was writing emails to a chicka, and I am almost certain hers are au natural, and I am talking about a serious chest! But, she and I just didn't have everything going for us that me and this other gal does. So, with a heavy heart I must admit that "man can not live by tits alone"! Check Bizrate, click on the "Price" header in the price column to see lowest to highest priced models (in case the link below doesn't set it up that way). Reviews and comparison pricing can be done there, too; and at the bottom of the page are links to retailers. http://www.bizrate.com/nc/buy/browse__cat_id--462,sort--5.html Title: Re: Suggestions on a lap top? Pete, Check your email at AOL. If you did not receive it, then I will send it to hotmail, or wherever you want it. OkieMan Title: Re: Suggestions on a lap top? Post by: Cali James on February 19, 2005, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to Suggestions on a lap top?, posted by Pete E on Feb 19, 2005
Pete, I get employee discounts on IBM Thinkpads. I can get you a T42 with 512mb of RAM for $1299 plus shipping to whoever it would be who'd be bringing it down. It's about a $500 discount. Dell is probably cheaper but I personally like Thinkpads. Title: Re: Re: Suggestions on a lap top? It comes with a Pentium M which although the clock speed is slower than a Pentium 4, it outperforms them in many cases in notebooks. I think M stands for mobile but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. When I was in California in August Fry's electronics had a lap top for $899.It was a pentium 4 2.6 I think,like256 ram,40 gb or so.15 inch display I was thinking it was a sony but maybe not.Something along that line.I will consider used.I guess the best deal for $800 or less? Make that 512MB of RAM minimum I've recently seen a couple of Notebooks from Acer that was quite competetive and not to pricy. I even followed a little service-story (bad led for built-in wifi). They exchanged the whole motherboard with a fresh one.
They cost a little more but heat will be an issue in your corner of the world. Title: Re: What I am looking for Post by: jediknight on February 19, 2005, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to What I am looking for, posted by Pete E on Feb 19, 2005
[This message has been edited by jediknight] for that price it wasn't a sony unless it was heavily used and doubtful that it was a p4 2.6, that would be over $2000, do they have laptops at that speed? I just bought a Toshiba Satellite laptop,& am completely satisfied with it... For quality look to spend at least $1000-1100.. I would stay away from celeron & centrino as this is cheap crap.... I`ve never been impressed with del products,as it so very difficult to obtain tech support if it is needed.. go to cnet.com & you can read reviews on everything... Hope this helps,Pete Title: Re: Re: Suggestions on a lap top? I second the Toshiba. Pete sounds like you have a good general idea of what you are looking for and you can get a nice Toshiba in that range. My best advise, think of the processor, display, and memory you want, and don't rack your brain by out weighing everything else, trying to get the most for the least. You'll go nuts. I've got two degrees, one in programming and one in networking, and I gave all that up years ago. I'd grab one of the Toshiba's and run. I used to be into Sony, but they are just way overpriced. I'm not sure if they still are, but they were proprietary too. V-Dude Title: Re: Re: Suggestions on a lap top? new, used, how much are you willing to spend? what are your needs? stay away from compaq, they're aweful machines, sony's are over priced, i was looking at a dell for about $1200, its the inspiron 600M, starts at about $850 but with certain upgrades will put you over $1000 Title: Re: Re: Suggestions on a lap top? HP, Compaq are not good from what I hear. I have a Dell basic entry level. I'm happy. But it depends on your needs. I have a friend that said Sony is good, but really the major advantage to Sony is if you are going to use other Sony stuff with it. I have never heard anthing bad about Sony so if thats your thing go for it. Gateway makes good desktops, I have one but decided to go with a Dell for a laptop. so far so good Title: Re: Re: Re: Suggestions on a lap top? Got a dell inspiron 600m, works great, ibm is great, and the toshiba has great battery life. focus on processor speed, ram, a good display and storage. you should go wireless (built in ) or get a wireless card. good luck. ricardo |
