Yes my Novia made the appointment in mid January for April 24th. I don't know if she has gotten papers or not but she has asked me for my address and some other info. I am going to meet her in Bogota to help. I hear (from my buddy Robert) that you can help increase the chances of them getting a tourist Visa (which is normally hard to get) if you include a letter that you are willing to be financially responsible for the person while they are here in the United States. I guess the worry is that they are going to have an accidnet or just not work (welfare). Who knows but I am looking forward to seeing Bogota. I hear parts are very nice. Hey Mazu, Please keep us posted on your progress. I am interested in hearing back from you concerning the tourist visa. From what I gather, no one else on this board has pursued that. If they have, I don't recall. At any rate, I would like to know how that differs from the K-1 or K-3. OkieMan Title: Re: interview dates in Bogota? The forms and instructions that she receives from the embassy are all in Spanish. The interview is in Spanish as well. My wife doesn't speak English but she had no problems with any of this as it was all in Spanish. Title: Re: Re: interview dates in Bogota? No I believe the introduction letter is in English as well as one of the applications to fill out and return. Engage the Exotic - Latin Women Title: Re: interview dates in Bogota? I have no experience with this yet, but I have a related question. Is it necessary for the latina in question to always go to Bogota for an interview; concerning either a K-1 or a K-3? For instance, if a lady from Cali or Medellin would have to go for one of these interviews; how much would the airfare be, typically? I would assume that any one of us gringos that is involved with the prospective latina bride would foot the bill for that, so I am just curious. I will not delve into all of the aspects of this since I am not there yet, but I am at least wanting to know the usual time frame and expense of this type of trip? Is it usually just a one day in and out thing? Anyone that has had this experience can weigh in on this. OkieMan Title: Re: Re: interview dates in Bogota? Yes, the US embassy is in Bogota and all the visa interviews are done there. Air fares within Colombia are cheap but it's no problem for them to take the bus. My wife always took the bus if I wasn't with her. It is not a one day thing. She has to have a lab done as well as a medical exam. She also has to pay the visa application fee in advance. It can all be done in 2 or 3 days. Title: Re: Re: Re: interview dates in Bogota? So, basically, the lady in this situation would have to stay at a hotel and take these tests and exams and make the appropriate applications over a 2-3 day period of time? Do you recall what the expenses were for your wife to do that? She travelled from Medellin, right? Do you know what the approximate distance is from Cali to Bogota? How much does a bus ride cost? How long does it take from Medellin to Bogota? I don't know if it would be close to the same as Cali or not. But, either way would give me some idea of what this entails. Thanks again. My wife rode the bus and stayed with her sister in Bogota. The bus costs a pittance. I think it's about a 10 hour bus ride. Title: Re: Re: Re: Re: interview dates in Bogota? I would guess, $90-150 R/T ticket from MDE to BOG. B&B two blocks from American Embassy $105-150 for three days. Exams, cab fair, meals $200-300. Total $400 - $500. Shouldn't worry, it relatively cheap. |
