Title: Colombians living in US returning home
Post by: Locii on January 06, 2004, 05:00:00 AM
There was an article in the Miami Herald (no link sorry) about how some are returning home, now that things are improving.  Several Colombian Nationals were interviewed about it, and the general reason was that, legal or not, things have been getting harder and harder for then since 911.

That, compunded with economic and political stability there, has them packing up to head back.  Interesting, I thought.

Ciao

I think they turned the corner. My spanish is poor but looking at the economics data in the newspaper it looks like things are looking up.
But- they have a long way to go.They need a goverment agency to get rid of government agencies. There are so many little duck ponds where some Colombiano is the big duck in the little pond and wants to assert his authority. They seem to have a paperwork, jump through the hoops sort of business thinking. They have a word for it that means "do not trust",but they need to streamline it a little if they want the economy out of the banos. Its like "this is the way we do it." like its cast in stone so no creative thought at all is needed. Some times it just seems like a big banana republic.
But smart people do abound.Maybe they can eventually change things.
