Just reporting some facts. I'm not anti-Colombia at all, as I am planning my trip to Peru, which is just next door I think. Anyway, If Calipro can handle Colombia, I'm sure its not that bad. If Peru doesn't work, then I'll probably try the Colombia thing. I was watching the CBS broadcast about the US hostages in Colombia last night and she (of all people) was telling me what fools she thinks we are for risking our lives to go look for women there. Just her opinion. If you want to see more of the interview with the hostages the full program will be on the History Channel tonight at 9 PM Central. I'm willing to bet that there were more deaths in LA (Los Angles)yesterday than in Bogota?? The bomb went off in the morning before working hours and was in an area no American would be. It was a black market district. Trust me, people were out in the malls shopping and having a good time yesterday. Don't overhype this. If you haven't picked up on this yet. Any bombings or things like that are not aimed at Americans or foreigners. [This message has been edited by Calipro] I'll be in Cali on the 17th of Dec. The same day most of the guys on the TLC hand holding tour go. Senge, if you are scared to go down by yourself you can go with TLC. They rent a bus so all the guys can go to the mall together. You have to see it to believe it. I have a better idea. Save yourself a $1000 for the tour. If you go down on the 18th I'll show you around for nothing but I won't hold your hand! Title: Re: Don't be a wuss! Let's compare the major attacks on American civilians vs Colombian civilians over the past ten years. With 9/11 and Oklahoma City alone, we have a body count of over 3,300. This doesn't include the school shootings and serial murders which are mainly an American phenomenon. The Colombian bombings over the years doesn't compare to this. Makes me want to move to Colombia where it is safer, at least in terms of body counts. Zack Title: Re: Colombian violence continues... Nobody's twisting your arm to go to Colombia, so why does it bother you so much that some of us go there? BTW, Peru's a dangerous place too, sure you're up to it? Title: You bet. El Tiempo reports that the police in Bogotá are attributing this to organized crime (for the purpose of extortion) and NOT the guerillas. I know, it's still a bomb, but I maintain my insistence that there are more bullets flying around here in Atlanta where I live than in Bogotá or Cartagena, for example. Just last month, a lady here at the university lost her son to bullets sailing through the air in Atlanta. It's a calculated risk, and small at that, you don't have to get on the plane. To most of us, it's worth it. JR Title: Re: Colombian violence continues...
