Title: Airport tax & ATM exchange rate UPDATE
Post by: cancunhound on July 09, 2003, 04:00:00 AM
As of last week, using the Servibanca ATM in Cali I received the exchange rate of 2,783.58 (This actually will be adjusted up slightly when my bank refunds ATM fees).  There was also a $400,000 limit ($143 US) per withdrawal - I did not play around with the number of withdrawals permitted per machine/per card.  The exchange rate for cash dollars at the official casas de cambio was either 2,620 or 2,610 depending on which one.

I finally figured out the crazy airport tax - once again I did not pay ANYTHING.  Of course, I picked up the exemption upon arriving.  The explanation of no fee by the AA agent was that the other portion of the tax is now included in your air ticket price - mystery solved.  Maybe that differs with other airlines?

The Servibancas I've used in Cali all offer a $500.000 withdrawal option. One even lists $1000.000 but that option isn't functional. The exchange rate you get always seems to be about 40 or 50 less than the oficial rate posted in the paper. Your bank has to make a living poor b**st*rds.

This one caps at $400.000.  Great machine, always connects instantly, has a secure door, and is the swipe type so you never worry about an "eaten" card.  For anyone looking for it at unicentro - it's easy to find - green stand recessed in the corner at the southern end near the 2 cash exchange shops.

Yeah it does differ.  Aces doesn't include the tax in the airline ticket price.  Just bought a ticket for my wife yesterday.
