Mudd,

The K-1 visa is a one-entry type of visa. When she enters the US the first time, she is already making use of this one-entry "prividlege". If she goes to Canada (even if she gets a visa to enter Canada) she will be trying to enter the US for the second time and if they found it out, she could be denied to re-enter the country.

On the other hand, you could get lucky and get away with it.

Some people, when asked if they are American citizens just answer, yes and that's it, but if they ask you for papers they will discover the lie.

I have been twice to Canada (as a U.S legal resident, I don't need a visa to enter Canada). When returning to the US, my husband was asked if we both were Americans, he answered he was, but that I was a legal resident and they asked to see my green card and Passport.

I don't think you guys will have too much trouble entering Canada (I have never been asked for papers), but you could encouter problems when you want to reenter the U.S.

But, I know people who got away with it. Of course, this happened before 9/11.

Thanks, I've often wondered if my wife & I could travel
to Canada, and return without a hassle.  She has a green
card stamp and a passport.

i dont think she is worried about getting back into the USA, rather, if she can get into canada without a visa, to study english and then go back to colombia.

Only permanent residents of the US are allowed in Canada regardless of their nationality. Otherwise they will be treated based on their nationality. For example if a person is Colombian and on a visa in the US and Colombians need entry visa for Canada, then he/she would need to apply for one. The check is made in Canada (flying or driving) but the airline is responsible to ensure that everyone onboard are in posession of valid entry docs.

From what I understand, it's much easier for a Colombian to get a Canadian tourist/student visa than a US tourist/student visa... And that would be requesting the visa in Bogota, not in the US...

My brother in law is talking about trying to get a visa to Canada since he can't get in the US.He thinks its easier. It can't be any harder,as in almost impossible to the US.
I don't know if they do work visas, which is what he wants. With a tourist visa he could try and find an employer to sponsor him if the system is similar to the US.

That info was according to my wife, who says that many Colombians try to get Canadian tourist/student/immigrant/refugee/politcal visas... I dunno, but that's what she says...

I do know that Canada IS open to all types of immigrants... Half of Vancover is now asian as many bought visas just prior to the Chinese takeover of Taiwan... Those with assets simply paid their way out of Taiwan and into Canada...

Canada's immigration policies have been under more scrutiny since 9/11 though...

Go figure...
