Title: And they wonder why
Post by: jim c on June 14, 2003, 04:00:00 AM
At my age some wonder why I go to Cali. Tonight I watched Jack Nicholson in "About Schmidt". It shows what the future can be for an american male when he gets older and retires. I would rather marry five green card sharks than go through the wasted later years shown in this flick. The closups shown in the cut scenes on the dvd version are enough to make us want to go on the search. The thrill of the week prime rib dinner at the local restaurant. Remember my previous post about old women naked. The movie can be depressing but instructive GET THEE TO COLOMBIA  Jim C

Jim,
A vision of a Cathy Bates type would send alot of guys south.
So we put up with the issues of Colombianas rather than face the grim ugly alternative.
I guess the real issue is can us old guys find a good one we can keep or do we keep doing a Calipro type adventure over and over again?
Age differernce reality is starting to bite me on the ass with my Colombiana who is now permanetly here.Maybe its not the age diference but the choice of person? We can hope thats it and try again. Many problems could be avoided by never bringing them here. But then you have to take the risks of a place like Colombia.
Maybe find a good one in Cali and move to Panama?Don't marry them and just trade them in if they lose their enthusiasm for you,or vica versa?
The quandries of not wanting to see at old naked woman, and of course wanting to have the younger one with the good body.
We make our choices and we take our chances.
Beats an old fat broad any day.I guess I am just too visual.
I know guys with old fat broads who seem to think its OK.Good women that not only don't give them a bad time but are an asset.
Yes there is a larger story here but I'm not ready to tell it.

Pete

For me its seeing how my friend has to crawl and grovel to his wicked-witch gringa wife, if he ever hopes to get sex again.  I think we have all been through are own personally tailored "scared straight" program.  That is why we are here.  However, it does sound like an interesting movie.

Last night after my Caleņa wife got through with me I caught a movie called "Proof of Life" with Russell Crowe and Meg Ryan.  It was a story of an American kidnapped in Colombia (except for some reason they invented a country named Telaca instead of calling it Colombia).

Talk about scared straight.  I might not have gone to Colombia if I had watched that first.  It is an interesting movie with a lot of nice scenes shot in the jungle in Ecuador.  Here's the official web site:

I remember watching "Proof of Life" on the night before a trip to Colombia last year... Did it keep me from going, NO... Did it cause me to be more cautious than I had been in the past, YES...

My wife and I watched it last night too... She had several "technical" comments concerning the settings and the tact of the guerillas... Seems she has had more than one run-in with the FARC as her home town is in the heart of guerilla country...

I remember seeing that movie in Cali w/a gal I really liked. She had a great bod & a hard head. After the movie, she swore up & down that the movie had nothing to do w/Colombia, even though I later showed her an article in a local paper that contradicted her. She maintained that the rebels in the movie were poor & unsophisticated. Right...

Sigh. I really liked this gal, & she liked me. But she was just too abrasive for me. Looked like a Calena, thought like a gringa.

Actually it is a true story and the guy was grabbed in Cali. He has a website and I looked at it about a year ago it has his picture and his family. While we are on the topic of movies try Birthday girl starring Nicole Kidmann. She is fantastic as a russian mail order bride. She just happens to be a scam artist with a crooked russian boyfriend. In a great scene she tells him, What did you expect?  Me to be in love with you? grow up! food for thought? I bet it will freak out guys on the russian board  JIM C
PS it just came out on dvd

Original Sin is another version of the "MOB takes advantage of the naive man" theme.  This weekend both movies were playing on cable locally.  Of course, both are fiction, but both portray dishonest MOB's scamming the men.  It's no wonder that the general public has a negative image of meeting and marrying foreign-born women.

TV show Law & Order show did an episode on that same theme 4 or 5 years ago...some Russian MOB had murdered her gringo husband but was real smart and carefull about it and even though the cops 'knew' she'd done it they couldn't prove it...finally they stumbled across a pre-existing Russian emmigrant boyfriend that she had really come over to join (just using the husband as the vechile to get the visa, of course), and made their case.

Jim

I saw Birthday Girl with my ex-Green Card Shark about 1 month before she left me.  Talk about coincidence.  When the movie was over while we were walking out my ex made some comment like "you can't really blame her because she is poor".  I tried to explain how wrong that point of view is but that was a waste of time.
