Title: Ay no! Why we love our latinas..
Post by: Edge on June 15, 2003, 04:00:00 AM
When I first went to Colombia and my first girlfriend exclaimed "Ay no!" about something she could not believe, for some reason, right at that moment, I fell in love with latinas.  I was hooked.  All the colombianas I know say it.  Part of their theatrics and drama.  I love when they say it.

What is it about the latinas that we love and keeps us hooked?  Their feminity, beauty, strong family values added to their theatrics and drama??

The "ay no" started it for me.

There are,

Papi or Papito or Papacito
Muneco

Amor
Perro (I have a friend who uses this word as a term of affection. I love it.)
Majito

Mamita

Reina or Reinita
Muneca
Divina
Mamita Rica (Only the calenas consider this acceptable; it should only be used in private with your girl.)

Well, of course, they litterely translate "oh no" and "oh yes"....I would say a better translation would be "how terrible" or "that's too bad" or dissagreement (not 'anger' or 'I want it MY way' disagreement, more like 'you still don't understand' what I'm trying to say, or the way we do things down here) disagreement.

For !oh si!...."that's great"---happiness that something worked out right.....or "that's right, I agree with you"

When you start speaking with Colombianas, you will hear both expressions rather often.

I have never been to Colorado but I have been showing her places I would like to show her and that is on the list.  I have never snow skied and I thought that would be a fun first to do together.
