Title: picking up visa
Post by: Dave Burnham on June 05, 2003, 04:00:00 AM
I married a wonderful woman in Barranquilla in May. We went to the embasy in Bogota on May 19th, which went very well, and she was given a return date of June 5th (today) to complete the process and pick up her visa.  She just called me crying, and told me she was not given her visa because her background check hadn't been received.  It sounds like they order a check of some kind from our country.  Does anyone know about this?  Does it come from Washington?  Probably a check to make sure she's not on some bad list as part of the homeland security.  All I know is she (and I!) were very disappointed as I thought she'd be flying here this weekend!

Hiker, who is another member of this forum just went through the same thing... If memory serves me corretly, they had to wait an additional 8 weeks before the security clearance and visa were issued...

Sorry, I know that's not what you wanted to hear...

Yes the bacground check comes from the states, and there is a Colombian check also. My fiance was there on the 4th. What she did was call the embassy a few days before to find out of everything was in order before the trip to Bogota. You spend about $600 for the 2 days fee's, aifare, hotel, taxi so I know what you must be feeling. Sorry things did not work out this process is anything but easy. By the way airfare is at a premium from Cali to Miami with taxes and fee's over 500
