Title: Question Post by: Dean on March 26, 2003, 05:00:00 AM gretings,
Just a question in regards to the current Iraqi situation.... has anyone heard of any Colombian service members being mobilized to help in Kuwait and/or Iraq in the near future? My question is based on this.... My brother-in-law and 2 of my wife's cousins received calls from DAS My brother in law has been out of service for several years.... He informed his employer, who promptly laid him off.... The whole thing sounds strange to me.... any comments? thanks, Title: Re: Question Post by: Pete E on March 27, 2003, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to Question, posted by Dean on Mar 26, 2003
Dean, Based on your relatives experience it seems Colombia wants to make some sort of token contribution to the coalition. It would probabably be aimed at trying to keep order in the country after the war. Colombia is one of our supporters. They know who their friends are.We are a strong supporter of them and I think that will intensify in the future. They need to get with it getting after FARC and the other groups.I can see us getting involved in supporting them with equipment, advisors and maybe air support. After IRAQ of course. About your brother in law getting laid off over it,that would be illegal here.A person who is called up has his job protected. If they have no such law in Colombia that creates a big hardship for called up soldiers where jobs are so hard to come by.
