Title: fiance visa question Post by: Pete E on January 03, 2003, 05:00:00 AM This may be in the archives somewhere but to save time can someone please answer.A friend of mine from here went to Bogota and met a lady.He just got a letter telling him his fiance visa was approved.
I know she has to go to an interview at the US Embassy.Do they contact her or does my friend and his lady have to do something? How much time from here untill she gets the visa? Thanks for any help.He is trying to plan when she can come. Mine was approved on September 6 here at the NSC. From there it went to Lima and they gave her a interview date of December 6, she had no choice in days or times, just show up or the next available date was like 2 months from that date. It is a LONG and time consuming process to go through. As far as him buying plane tickets you just can`t do that until it is all approved. By the time I found out my fiancee visa was approved it was to late to get her here by Christmas which would have been nice. You can, but will pay through the nose for a ticket. So I leave on January 30 to get her. I just thank God this is all over now and can get back to enjoying life for a change. Have your friend fax a copy of the approval to the lady, she can take the notice to the U.S. Embassy and ask for her paperwok, this may save some time and nothing will get lost in the Colombian mail system. the INS will send their info to the embassy in bogota. they in turn, will send her a package with forms and instructions on what she will need, police report, doctor report with shots ect. you will have to send her a avidavite of support, notorized here in the USA, along with tax returns of the last three years, or copies of your W2. current pay stubs, saving and checking accounts statements, stock, bond statements if you have them. make sure you remove all info that you dont want people to see, SSC #, account #'s stuff like that. sometimes the process goes fast, and she could have her visa in as little as two months, but more likely, three to four. Pete, If his application has been approved, then the INS service center in his area will be sending the information to the Embassy in Bogota. From there, I believe the Embassy will mail her a package of detailed information with instructions for her. Your friend should send her "originals" of all of the documents he had to include in the I-129F package. So, I think it is time for her to wait for the information in the mail. I'm not 100% sure but that is how I interpreted it. There is a wealth of info at this website.... Can I post URL's here??? ;-) I'm just starting the process...I sent off my I-129F package this week. You are right. They will send her a instructions on what to bring with her and what to do. It is possible to go ahead and ask for a file to be opened for her now that he knows the case is on its way to Bogota, but I don't think that really speeds anything up. |
