Title: Opinions,Ideas, Suggestions,Experiences Post by: FenixRises on December 11, 2001, 05:00:00 AM Hi All,
Since my wedding is next month I have been giving a lot of thought to communication. Specifically, from what I read in different posts, I know my new wife will have a desire to maitain communication with her family. One idea that I have had is the possibility of providing one of my new in-laws with a computer and ISP service. I do not know if this would be finacially practical but I do know that various guys already married have sometimes spent large amounts on phone bills($100's per month), even with calling cards etc. So I am interested in what everyone thinks or knows about the possibilities. 1. Has anyone done this king of thing. 2. What is the monthly cost of ISP service in (for me specifically) Colombia. 3. Whould this be a practical alternative for the parties involved.(I know that sometimes there is no substitute for hearing someone's voice) 4. In the states very inexpensive computers are available($400-$500) that are adequate for internet access. What might something comparable cost down south. 5. I am pretty sure that SA phone companies charge per minute connection fees for ISP service, unlike here in the US. Any definite info on this and cuanto cuesta? So...Opinions,Ideas, Suggestions,Experiences Fred Title: Re: Opinions,Ideas, Suggestions,Experiences Post by: El Diablo on December 11, 2001, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to Opinions,Ideas, Suggestions,Experiences, posted by FenixRises on Dec 11, 2001
Hi Fred, I'd definitely test it out before you invest money in things like computers and such. Some of the ISPs in Cali have terrible bandwidth problems, sure you might be connected I personally use AT&T as my ISP in Cali. It's more expensive but the bandwidth is better. If a person does buy ATT for use in Cali, make sure you register it as a Colombian account and not a United States one. If it's a U.S. account, they will charge you an expensive roaming fee for being outside your normal ISP area. You and some of your ex-army buddies were planning a beer & breast excursion to Colombia.... You gotta alot, no check that, you got ONE nerve to call someone's pending marriage a loser... Envy of another man's happiness, must be eating you up something terrible dude. You haven't come out POSITIVE here at all. Not ONCE!!! Keep drowning in your envy. I'm happy for any man here who finds & is found by love. You still haven't said ANYTHING of what makes you such an expert or prize for that matter.... I understand, you can't love, so it pisses you off, when others have love. Awww....that's too bad you! Title: You're the one, that's a RED FLAG!!!!! Let's see the guy CAN NOT speak Spanish well, only at the level of a child. Goes to Colombia get involved with a girl HALF his age. Who he really does not know. She's in a bad financial situation. They agree to get married after a few weeks... Yea this old man and this young girl who can't speak each others language are gonna make it. What a fool believes.................... You fail to realize, that there isn't ANY PERFECT SCENARIO!! Many have SUCCEEDED with less than perfect matches here. Why is it soooo difficult for you, just to congratulate someone? Are you that blinded by your own envy, that you can't say "Congrats...I wish you two luck". BTW, guys & gals who speak the same language, are the same age, who have known each other for years, have money...HAVE STILL BEEN MUCKING UP HERE MANY TIMES OVER IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T NOTICED!!!!! WHAT'S YOUR POINT???? CONGRATULATE, DON'T HATE!!!!! You still haven't provided any personal experience of what makes your opinions so valuable in regards to finding or being found by love... You scared??? Bashing femi-nazi's, going on beer & breast excursions & living/posting your life through war stories is easy. Doing checkups from the neck up & committing yourself to the search & then working the HARD PART OF BEING TOGETHER with your lifemate...is HARD, BUT REWARDING!!! You're not here seeking help, you're here seeking beer buddies. You're relationship experience has made you one sad soul!!! ". BTW, guys & gals who speak the same language, are the same age, who have known each other for years, have money...HAVE STILL BEEN MUCKING UP HERE MANY TIMES OVER IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T NOTICED!!!!! " When you put out your self as having found the answer in someone HALF your age who can't speak your language and needs YOUR money then I think you open yourself up to what anyone says here. And the facts are that unless you speak GOOD spanish. Spend When you know someone less that two weeks who is half your age and you tell EVERYONE how you're getting married to Mrs. Right you can expect those of us who live in the real world to say the truth. It's designed to fail or is a scam from the start.

Hey Raptor, It's not that difficult to make a similar point but to do it in a fashion were others aren't alienated. You could put together a post about older guys and younger gals and draw what ever conclusions you want. I'm sure we'd listen but it would be the the strength of your argument that we'd be listening to not insults. I personally have a hard time taking anyone serious who calls a regular poster here a loser for no other reason than telling us he's engaged. You call someone a loser right off the bat and you can expect a response in kind but I would say that FenixRises has shown his "class" by not responding at all. Fred, I'm happy to hear that you're getting married bro! So, how and where did you meet your 'other' half at? Anyway, here's what I'm planning on doing. I live in a town of about 50,000 people or so. But, it's an environment that isn't very condusive to hispanics/latinas. There's a small town outside of Joplin, Missouri called Carthage, where the first original civil war took place(Battle of Carthage). The town has about 12,000 people, is a beautiful town, and consists of about 40% hispanics. They have a free 'English As A Second Language Class' that hispanics can take to learn English. Within the next 5 years, it was said, by town officials, that Carthage will consists of 50%, or more, of the hispanic culture. This is a huge advantage to my future wife, because it will give her a chance to be around other hispanics that speak the same language as she do. It will also allow her to feel more comfortable and not so much alone. She will be able to make friends rather quickly with other women who know her culture, while she's taking English classes. There are a few Colombians in Carthage that she will be able to meet. On the downside, being that most of the agencies girls are living in Cali(big city), the only downside is that she will have to get used to, and thus readjust herself, the size of the town(12,000) that she will be living in. Joplin is only 10 minutes away from Carthage(Missouri) so it wouldn't be that bad of a drive if she wanted to start taking college classes after she became more fluent in English. What I have planned is for my future wife to take the Free English Classes for 3 months or so, until she become a little bit fluent. Then, I'm going to dump her into the IEP(Intensive English Program) at MSSC(Missouri Southern State College, located in Joplin, Missouri(where I live at now), so that she can get a better command on the English language. After 8 months to a year of study with the IEP program, she will then be able to take ordinary classes so that she will be able to get a better grip on the overall system of education. At least, this is my plan....

hi hilton, I met my other half at Luz Amparo's Latin Best. Altogether I met about 20 women on my first 10 day trip to Cali in June-July 2001. As fate would have it my soon to be wife was the first woman I met. After numerous phone calls and e-mails I returned in Oct. to spend 10 days with her to see if the feelings were real, mutual and strong. They were, we set a date. I am going back to Cali in January to get married. Altogether a wonderful experience. Since I live in SoCal the language difference is not really a big problem, lots of Spanish speakers here. I am becoming more fluent daily. Free ESL classes are available here. There is a community college about a mile from where I live. Fred Title: Re: Re: Congratulations... First, congrats on your forthcomming wedding. Now, about the internet in Colombia: 1. I looked into it, for the same reasons you cited (i.e. leave a cheap but serviceable computer with her family) and that's what I found out. I'd recomend it to anybody, leave your brides's family a computer, pay their internet bill (you can pay it a year in advance as a "gift" to them) and when your wife isn't chatting with them, little brother can use it to check out the ladies, opps, I mean do his homework, ha ha. I can't remember right off, but there are 3 or 4 "major" ISP's in Colombia. Go to Yahoo search and put "internet" and "colombia" and tell it must match all words and you will find them.
