Title: Vilma's first driving lesson
Post by: don2222 on March 24, 2001, 05:00:00 AM
Okay, I thought it might be time for some positive and fun information.
First of all everyone needs to understand that Vilma has never, ever
held a steering wheel in her hand before.  She had no idea how to steer
or brake or anything.
Well, this afternoon Vilma asked me if she could drive our little car.
I told her it was okay as long as we stayed in the neighborhood, and we
went really slow to begin with. The first thing I did was show her how to apply
the brakes, if nothing else, she needs to know how to stop.  I showed her
how to steer, and how to engage first gear.  And off we go!
Vilma seems to have a natural ability.  She was steering gracefully,
braking smoothly, and had no trouble engaging second gear.
Before long she had shifted into fifth, and floored the gas.
Vilma was driving as though she had driven all her life.
We were flying around the neighborhood laughing our heads off.
I am sure all the neighbors thought we were crazy.
Yep, it was the most fun I have ever had riding that ol' Snapper of mine.

Don,

Please have her cruise up the road and mow my lawn...

Just joking, of course.  Hope to see you two soon.

Title: Well gee, my record would have been so good...

...if I only practised with the mower.

When I got my license I felt so confident in my ability to drive.  Well, a week later I made a drive through on our porch and knocked an inch off the foundation of the house.  Two weeks later, I t-boned a brand spanking new Jeep which the guy just bought the night before.  He was really pissed--cussed and yelled at me.  A year later, I backed into a tree in our driveway.  My hubby was so mad at me for not paying attention.  I replied, 'Well how did that tree get there?' and he said, 'It's already there before you were born'.

That was 5 years ago....my record is now clean and I'm reaping the benefits of having a cheaper insurance bill.

Carrisse, who is learning to ride a dirt bike.....watch out!

If she's mowing the neighbors lawns at the same time, she should be able to buy her own car real soon :-)

LOL, you really had me going there ! I was thinking to myself "he's teaching her on a standard transmission ! Wow !"

Hey, mastering a garden tractor is a good confidence builder.
Many American kids start that way. I did, at age 10. There are SOME similarities to an automobile.
