What were the complications so that others can learn from you bad experiences. Good luck to both of you. Alvin1 Title: Re: Congrats, why so long? Post by: red on May 02, 2003, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Congrats, why so long?, posted by Alvin1 on May 2, 2003
Complications were 9/11 and people at State Dept. being very strict. The main problem was Rosie was a nurse in Libya for 3 years in the 1990's and this threw up a red flag in the words of the State Dept official i spoke to. Also, Libya was late in responding to requests for police clearance, but they finally realeased one after the 3rd request from our case worker in Manila. Rosie is Roman Catholic, a sweet girl, and a nurse, but they really made us wait a long time for approval. We never gave up. I recommend taking INS forms with u when u visit your fiance and having her sign them. This will save time. Also get the passport pictures of u both that the INS requires while u are there. Keep all documents like airline tickets, pictures, passport, hotel receits and things like that. Take pictures of u with her family too. Dont hesitate to write your Congressman,if u get jerked around. Get an immigration lawyer,if forms and procedure are very confusing to u, but people here will help u with questions u have,so i dont really see a need. If, u dont have a passport, get one well in advance of when u go. Use common sense and stay safe while in another country. If possible, stay on Luzon. Mindanao is another red flag as is getting a pen-pal that spent time in a Muslim country. A lot of Filipina's have traveled overseas. This could be a problem, as it was for us. This was my experience, and i speak only for me. Others may have a different take on it. Getting an overseas wife is a long and expensive process. It is not to be taken lightly. If, u meet the girl of your dreams, be it through her friends and family here in the States, or through the internet site, then it is more than worth it. Best Regards Title: Re: Congrats, why so long? Post by: Jeff S on May 02, 2003, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Congrats, why so long?, posted by Alvin1 on May 2, 2003
Red's story can be found in the archives. His sweetie once worked in Lybia, I think, or some other not-so-friendly middle eastern country. - Jeff |
