Title: I thought you guys had opinions?
Post by: outwest77 on March 27, 2003, 05:00:00 AM
[This message has been edited by outwest77]

I post a moving patriotic speech by Charlie, and not one response,
Peter posts his trials and tribulations with his gf who nobody thinks he should be with, and you guys post about 100 responses .

Which is more important in the overall scheme of things, what are anyone and everyone you know of, talking about? everywhere you go. ?
You guys have no opinion ? I am so fed up with these anti war protestors i am about to organize a Support our troops rally down by the university where i live, in my city, to counter the idiots , who are soaking up all the police resources everyday in our city . Last Friday, they had about 1000 cops blocking every street for 2 miles , just to keep the "peace" from the "peace protestors".

Yes i know my post was off topic, But its a post about one of the most important topics you can think of, off this board. The War.

I found these sites that some might want
to look at. The first one includes footage on the 3/23 and 3/24 listings about dead American soldiers. It's awful. So please don't look at the
first site if images of war upsets you.

The second one is just a slideshow set to music, including stills of Americans about to jump out of the WTC tower.

Why are you looking for controversy here?  So far most people posting to this thread have endorsed your views of Charlie Daniels and there hasn't been much controversy, but I certainly don't agree with him, however I prefer to keep me politics to myself, thank you very much.

We have enough fights on this board coming over Latin women versus Russian women, or WOVO versus WMVM, do you really need to stir the pot about the war?

Sure the war is important, but go find another more appropriate message board in addition to this one and post to your hearts content there.  Just because we all have the common objective of finding foreign wives doesn't mean we have the same political views and I think talking politics on such a volatile issue as the war is just plain dumb.

Hi lswote,

You are right about some of us getting wayyy off topic at times! Sometimes we get patriotic, angry, or silly. Things get a bit slow and boring around here at times. We find ourselves posting just about anything (including farts), maybe to keep this from becoming a ghost town. The vast majority of us are involved with Filipinas and don't know much about other countries. There are a few posters with wives from other Asian countries. Jeff, Mal, and Tim who occasionally posts. We are at different stages in relationships. Many of us are already married, some for a number of years. Most of us don't have a lot of useful information in regards to immigration procedures, since they change on a regular basis, especially at the US Embassy in Manila. Introduction services (for money) and penpal clubs that charge money for address are illegal in the Philippines. About half of us met our wives or fiancées through other means and are not familiar with these services. Consequently the Asian Message Board has become more than a just a clearinghouse for finding foreign wives.

Hi Matt,

The Philippine government continues to negotiate with these terrorists, despite 70% of the residents of Mindanao against it. The MILF continues to terrorize right through peace negotiations. Unlike President Arroyo, most Mindanao residents realize that most of the Muslim minority (all of the terrorists) won't be satisfied until they drive all of the Christians from Mindanao and form their own country. Contrary to Muslims claims, they were not the first settlers of Mindanao. I doubt very few Mindanao residents are opposed to using US troops in combat against the MILF and ABS! If the government won't do anything but continue to negotiate, Christian vigilante groups will once again raise their hands against Muslims...some innocent.

... in response to Politics are inappropriate for this boar..., posted by lswote on Mar 27, 2003

Hi Iswote,

I disagree! We don't fight about Russian versus Latin women on the Asian Board. We don't even fight about the choice between Filipina, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Thai, and Indonesian... The only problems we usually have here come from trolls or Latin and Russian Board members. We can tie Asian topics into the politics and the war posts if you would like, but is that really necessary? Life is intertwined and one aspect often relates to another. The war is a large focus of most of our lives at the moment. Some of our fiancées and wives are asking about it. More American troops will be landing in the Philippines soon for "training exercises" against al-Kaida linked terrorists. People that don't like conservatism here or the way this board has become sometimes leave. But they could make this board whatever they wanted by posting and starting threads of discussion, instead of posting only to complain. The only rule some of us may break on occasion is number 6. But I guess that is subject to how sheltered ones life is.

Discussion Board Rules

  1. No SPAM

  2. No using multiple identities

  3. No posting of personal ads for men

  4. No discussions of prostitution

  5. No posting links to pornography

  6. No foul language

Hi Hum,

I personally think that at the very least, they ought to round up these people up if they break any laws, as small as no permit, and put them in internment camps until the war is over. Anyone remaining deserves a good head cracking from the police and jail time. I would really prefer that they all get sent to Baghdad! I'm sure some people will get on me about Constitutional rights! I have to live with it, but didn't write it. I prefer GUILTY, until proven innocent!

I am curious why you would assume this is a conservative crowd.  I am not conservative by any means and wonder how you could deduce that since people are looking for a foreign bride they must be conservative.

And only the content of my heart can put me in hell ... not whether I agree with you or not.

ISWOTE:

STEPHEN:

My conclusion that this is a fairly conservative board is not based upon seeking a foreign bride.  It's based on being here 3-4 years and knowing the comments of those who post.  I went through Clinton years with these guys.  For the most part they are CONSERVATIVE.

Of course, there are exceptions to the rule.  There was a guy named CC.  He was a European liberal from Germany.  I'm really quite shocked that he has not been around here to pop his head in.  Even though he was liberal we all had a good time.  And there's Madmal.  He's from Australia and doesn't have much sympathy with America either.  That's a bloody shame!  But we all get along well, nonetheless.

I see no reason why you and I can't also have a good time.

ISWOTE:

And only the content of my heart can put me in hell ... not whether I agree with you or not.

STEPHEN:

Saying "Go to hell" is a legal term of art.  I learned it in law school.

By the way..."ISWOTE" is an interesting handle name.  Just curious....but how'd you come up with that name?

Fair enough.  Your reasoning is actually something I thought about after I had already posted my response.  I am neither conservation nor liberal, but go either way based on individual situations.  I don't like to be lumped in as a conservative though.  Don't really like to be lumped with liberals either, but it probably bothers me more to be lumped in as a conservative than liberal just because many conservatives seem pretty inflexible and I consider myself very flexible.

As far as my handle goes, it is not ISWOTE, it is LSWOTE.  It is an acronym for "Let's See What's Out There, Engage!".  It is something Captain Picard from "Star Trek The Next Generation" used to say.  I am a Star Trek fan and feel it means "try new things and try them now".  I use it to remind myself to not let fear of the unknown stop me or postpone me from exploring new things.

Sorry you feel I "revealed" my politics by saying what I am not.  Seems to me if we could keep our political conversations limited to "I am definitely not a conservation" or "I am definitely a conservative", the potential for nasty exchanges would be pretty much nil.  What I keep to myself is my political opinions that might cause unneeded controversy (unneeded on a board whose purpose is to discuss dating foreign women, I am not shy to share my political opinion in the appropriate place).

Excuse me for assuming that you were a liberal. I think it was the “by any means” in “I am not conservative by any means” that threw me off :-)

Anyway, I'm glad to hear that you are definitely not a not a "conservation" and I also have nothing against liberals per se. If you choose not to discuss your political opinions on this forum, that is just fine with me. I think we sometimes do get carried away with the political “discussions” from time to time and you’re absolutely right in that it doesn’t really have anything to do with dating foreign women. Unless of course they happen to be commie pinko foreign women – OOPS! Sorry, there I go again (LOL).

As an American and lover of freedom, I stand right beside you saluting our flag. I will not forget terrorist attacks on innocents in our country, the Philippines, and throughout the world. I support our country, our troops, and our coalition partners 100%. I will not hide my head in the sand and hope that the threats throughout the world go away. And I will not stand by idly and not strongly disagree with those who suggest that we do so. I respect their right to express their opinions...as well as my own to shove my views down their throats. I am usually easy going...but certain topics have only one viewpoint in my book...mine! I spent 20 years, often risking my own life, to save the lives and comfort the dying people of all races and religions. What have these terrorist bastards ever done for anyone but torture and take lives? I am ready and willing to take up arms and fight if given the opportunity. I am preparing my sons for the very real possibility that they will do so in the near future. They are ready as well! I have a nephew in the war. That foolish little North Korean punk better pray that we are willing to negotiate with him, or else he will suffer Saddam's fate!

I just think its oddd that a board has absolutely no comment about the war, yes i realize its a board for asian penpals, but we all also have lives and have to deal with the problems of the world, so i see nothing wrong with a discussion about current events.

Some days there are more important things to discuss than our penpals, or wives spending too much of our money. :o)

The reason I have not wanted to post regarding the war is
because this is not the forum for it. We are here to talk about "asian wives".

We all have opinions about it. I would say that many opinions differ from yours, particularly outside the USA.
If a dissenting opinion (anti-US) were posted here it would be shot down by 100 replies.
I have a reasonable name here. My opinion might threaten that.
So what would the point be. And what would it achieve.
Nobody is going to be able to change anyone elses opinion here. So it would be futile.
I'm happy to sit back and watch the chest beating without comment.

...or are spoon fed.

Hi Jay,

Don't let it get to you! I am not surprised what people think about the war throughout the world. First of all, you will always have the a-hole leftist and liberal idiots. Many of them grow up one day, leave college, and get a real job. Then they get their heads out of their azzes. College professors and actors seem stuck in the liberal left loop. But you also have good people throughout the world whose brains are being poisoned by their media. Can you imagine being bombarded by the type of propaganda that is being broadcast by Al-Jazira and seeing no other viewpoints? No wonder many Arabs hate us. They broadcast photos of women and children killed by Saddam's (The Butcher of Baghdad) troops and blame it on us. How much time do you figure they spend covering the coalition giving out food, water, and aid to the people Saddam is starving. Probably NONE! It took the Iraqi News 60 splices in the tape the other day just to show that Saddam was still in charge. We are fortunate in the US that we have a much broader news coverage than most of the world, from which to base our opinions. But still, most of our media favors the liberal and left. We are at war now, so the coverage has been a bit more balanced. However, if you watch some channels, it looks like the peace mobs are taking over the country. We as Americans know that this simply isn't the case. These "peace" protests are generally organized by a few whackos. They are often leftist and the communists who count among it's membership a great many terrorists and killers throughout the world. Many of the protestors are not even residents, but are paid and bused into these cities. They are joined by the Anti-Bush crowd, some college students, young Muslims trying to get in touch with roots, converted radical US Muslims, bored people with nothing else to do, social misfits, old hippies, and a few people who are truly pacifists and against the war. Most of the world sees a totally different picture, portrayed by their media...through a distorted lens and microphone than we do. Maybe they put Vaseline on the lens like Penthouse used to do to make the pictures less clear...and to make it more comfortable for their viewers to take that crap up their azz. ;o))) Stick with Fox News!
